The missus and I are starting the process of looking for a house and are having some difficulty figuring out where exactly we want to look. We are trying to find a fairly small house that is within 30-40 minutes of downtown, but we have no desire to live in a suburban-type area. Anyhow, where around here can we find a house with land? Not acres and acres, but enough that the neighbor can't see in the window to see me watching football in my under-roos. :! We've lived in Westerville the last 6 years and we're both fed up with the close proximity of all the houses. I could probably pee out my bedroom window and into the nieghbor's. I probably have at some point that I don't remember.

We aren't exactly sure in what area to tell the agent to look. Would we be able to find a piece of property like this south of the city? East or west of the city? What city/town/village names could we mention to our agent?

Any thoughts/advice at all would be GREATLY appreciated! :)

Check the outskirts of Hilliard - I'm talking like way west Hilliard, almost out of Franklin COunty Hilliard.

You could also go north, up in to the less populated area of South Delaware County.

South, you could go down to Pickaway County and still be within you 30 - 40 minute range. Hell, I have a buddy who lives outside of Circleville, and he takes 104 in to town and gets in in less than 45.

All the ones I named are south of town, Asheville and Duvall are a couple others.

Canal Winchester, Lithopolis, Commercial Point, Carroll are all options.

Those are the areas we were thinking. South of the city has seemed like the best bet, but I don't know anything about the areas west of the city.

Hadn't really thought of Hilliard area. As mentioned, I don't know much about what's west of downtown.
S. Delaware county is pretty much out ($$$$$). That area is nuts right now.

I would recommend Johnstown, Sunbury, Galena, Plain City, Newark, West of Hilliard (near I-70), Chillicothe, outskirts of Grove City, Mount Vernon, and Granville.

All the above you could find a small house on a decent plot of land.

My wife's uncle is a realtor. If you'd like his number, I'll give it to you. He's a real good guy, and knowing your a bud of mine, he'd do everything he could for you.

Galena, Genoa Township, Sunbury, West Hilliard are all good ideas. I'm, of course, partial to Hilliard because of the schools.

I've thought about several of those areas. The type of area where Clover Leaf is would be perfect, but perhaps a little further off than I would necessarily look for.

I was a little generous when I said 30-40 minutes. 20-30 is probably closer to my preference, which unfortunately rules out several suggestions. Plus, my wife hates commuting more than I do, so 40 minutes would really piss her off.

I'm quite familiar with the Galena, Genoa, and Sunbury areas, but those are just a bit too far out for my commute to the southside. I'll mention W. Hilliard. One of my co-workers lives in Hilliard and doesn't seem to have a terrible time with getting here.

Out east I'd look towards Granville... North or West of Dublin (reaching out to Plain City) would also fit your needs... south of the city would also meet your needs (and would be the cheapest of the suggestions), if you live in columbus I assume you know south of the city is more blue collar communities... not a bad thing by any streach, however totally different community when compaired to Upper Arlington, Worthington, Dublin, or New Albany...

Thanks for all the suggestions. We're already having the agent watch Lithopolis and Canal Winchester and I'll have the missus e-mail her to add Carroll and Commercial Point. Sounds like we had the right idea about where we wanted to look.

Cheapest is definitely a good thing. As far as the ambience, neither of us are particularly concerned. It'll be refreshing not having to deal with the Westervillains constantly.

Thanks again to everyone for the suggestions!
