CBN Pre Season Poll..Bucks #40

That would be AWESOME if they could make it to the CWS! I'm a freshman at OSU this year but grew up in Omaha. I go back to watch thte CWS every other summer or so, and it'd be awesome to be able to cheer on the Buckeyes!

Check out this preview for our upcoming season from Eric Soreneson. I highlighted to the most important parts...it tells the tale.

Its nothing we didnt already know, but It does seem to validate our gripes about the schedule. It seems the sky actually is falling

3-Ohio State (37-21, 19-12)
The Good News:
As long as this team doesn't have to face Florida as well, right? Sorry Buckeyes, that was a stupid joke, I know. But this Ohio State outfit also has a lot to look forward to on the field. The entire 4-man rotation (Big Ten plays four weekend games) is back, including a trio of sweet lefties in Frosh All American J.B. Shuck (8-5, 2.51 and .325 as DH), Cory Luebke (7-6, 3.38) and, the best of the bunch, senior Dan DeLucia (10-2, 3.25). Some potent bats come back to Columbus in OF Matt Angle (.359, 25SBs), C Eric Fryer (.358) and 2B Jason Zoeller (.337). If the 2007 squad comes somewhat close to last year's numbers (.332 team average and 3.46 team ERA), this should be a serious post-season team.
The Bad News:
Those are great numbers and everything, but OSU didn't play a real crash-hot schedule, and they won't do so this year either. Watch for a good record but a weak RPI. All American OF Ronnie Bourquin (.416) was a Rock of Gibraltar in that Buckeye lineup and SS Jedidiah Stephen seemed to be in scarlet and gray for six years or so. They won't be replaced easily. Those two also combined for over half of the teams flimsy 28 home runs last year.
The Intangible:
It's a one week season. With Ohio State's unusually weak non-conference schedule, the lower part of the Big Ten's "anchor effect" and the general attitude toward northern schools, the Buckeyes whole post-season hopes rest with winning the Big Ten tournament. Because it's pretty certain that unless they go something in the neighborhood of 45 wins or higher, an at-large bid isn't going to happen.
Best non-conference series:
The State University of Florida at Columbus. The Buckeyes will play the first 19 games of the season in the Sunshine State. And they're doing themselves no favors either. OSU won't be facing Florida, Miami, Florida State, Florida Atlantic or anything close. A team this good needs to play non-conference teams that are better than Duquesne, Bucknell, Yale, Lehigh and the like. This will definitely come back to haunt them come at-large time.

Agree wholeheartedly. I can't imagine why you would work up that kind of schedule. In 04 they came down here and played pretty well, went 2-1 at the beach tournament, they played pretty well at the ECU tournament the other year too. I dont' even think this schedule is a good build up to the Big Ten season. 4 game series are like tournaments, you need to play in them to get ready.

the thing that gets me is that we dont have to schedule juggernauts..

Costal, there are tons of teams we can play in your neck of the woods that would really boost our rpi. teams like Elon, Costal carolina, C of C, winthrop, ect. are all quality opposition. A few games with teams like that would go a long way towards boosting our national cred. I'm afraid its gonna take getting left out of the regionals with a 40+ win season before we change our scheduling ways.
