CBF40's look at '12 recruiting (BP's prediction thread)

Here we go for an update. It seems like we are in late summer, to have this great of a hold on the class already. Just crazy, and tons of talent for a smallish class, but it will be big time from top to bottom. To follow up on a great 2011 class. They will really mesh well together.

QB - With the small class and a QB in the last 4 classes and Miller I say pass. It is way early to tell tho. Matty Mauk and Collin Michael have had their names thrown around a bit. if we do decide to go after one.

RB - 2 (Dunn and Ball) Two Top 100 backs in our own backyard. I think it is pretty simple. Shell is good, but no reason to spend resources IMHO.

WR - 1 - With three coming in this year, a small class, and not the highest talent, I don't see us going any farther than 1. Unless one of them in Devonte Neal. Not sure where we are at with him at this point, but he is a top 10 recruit that listed us early with good things to say about us, and he and his family are originally from Ohio. Tres Barksdale and Cameron Wilson are two names from Ohio to keep an eye on.

TE - 0 - With 2 this year a small class next year I say pass.

OL - 4 - Some very good names from in-state again in 2012. Anthony Stanko, Taylor Decker, Benny McGowan, Kyle Kalis, and Ryan Anderson. Out of State Abraham Garcia. We will need to make sure we nab probably 2 that can play on the outside, with all the inside guys we are taking this year.

DL - I am not going to put DE/DT, because I think we take 4 of the 5 studs in Ohio and sort out positions later. Those 5 being Pittman, McMullen, Lewis, Wormley, Washington. I have Lewis out at this early stage, but we could take all 5, move one to TE, slide 2 or 3 inside. We could make it work, just that numbers will be tight, and we loaded up this year. Tom Strobel is another name to watch, any other year we probably offer him, but probably not next year.

LB - We are going to need 3 probably. Perry already in. Ross and Ringer would be a great pair to get us to three. Derek David seemed really promising early, but an early verbal and those 3, above, probably cause us to not pursue to hard.

DB - Bam Bradley and Allen Gant would give us a great pair of safeties. Deshawn Hall will get a long look as well. We need to make sure we land 1 pure corner probably as well. Don't have any other names here, really at the moment.

RB - Warren Ball
RB - Brionte Dunn
WR - Devonte Neal
OL -Anthony Stanko
OL - Taylor Decker
OL - Benny McGowan
OL - Kyle Kalis
DL - Sevon Pittman
DL - Greg McMullen
DL - Chris Wormley
DL - Adolphus Washington
LB - Josh Perry
LB - James Ross
LB - Kaleb Ringer
DB - Allen Gant
DB- Bam Bradley
DB - Deshawn Hall

That puts us at 17. Not sure if we get there, and that is all instate other than a long shot in Neal and James Ross on the list.

I would feel good in saying that we land at least 10/17, even at this very very early stage.

That's why I was wondering if the staff might try to fit in Jones (if the academics are there) this year. Hard to answer this right now, but does Jones have greater potential than any of the '12 QB's? I don't see room for a QB in '12, especially with the Bucks in on so many of the defensive talents.

As everyone has stated already, this is a standout class defensively. You grab every one of those defensive linemen that want to be Buckeyes and let them battle it out. The way Heacock rotates defensively, there is potential playing time if you're good enough. If not, it's amazing how willing guys are to switch positions if it gets them on the field faster. It will be interesting to see how the guys in the classes of '10 and '11 develop, particularly Baldwin and Farris. Are they future offensive tackles? Guess we'll have to wait and see.

That's a heckuva class that cbf40 has thrown out there, and it's not a "dream" type of class. The Bucks have a legit shot at each guy listed. And to think, there are two more full football seasons for others to develop. This particular class is going to draw a lot of discussion over the next two years.

I know you only did this with a couple OOS guys but I don't know how any 12 discussion happens without Keith Byars II.

Derek David is the type of guy that you go after hard after the comments he's made all along about tOSU. Could very easily be the top LB in the '12 class, not just in Texas. You make room for him no matter what, and I'd expect the staff to think the same. How strong is the Tech commit is the question though.

Beacuse of who his dad is? Or because he is on the same talent level as Dunn and Ball?

Any chance we could get an over/under bet on the number of "lock!!1!" and "any updates?!?" jokes in this young man's thread?

You could say the same about Shell too...

But with Ball and Dunn in state, is there a need to go after anyone.

I get what you're saying regarding it being easier on many levels to stick to instate when possible, but based on what Byars II has said, isn't it effectively the same thing with him? It sounds like it wouldn't take much courting to get him to come to OSU.

I'd at least think it's close enough that talent comparisons could drive the decision here regarding instate RBs and Byars II.

I believe that Dunn and Ball are equal or more talented than Byars/Shell so to me you keep it simple.

Did Shell peak? I expected him to be one of the top players in the country, regardless of position. Dunn is a big athlete too...I wonder how he would look at LB.
