Everybody is somebody else's weirdo.
The Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award was established by the conference's Faculty Representatives in 2008 as an addition to the Academic All-Big Ten program. To be named a Distinguished Scholar, a student-athlete must have earned Academic All-Big Ten honors during the previous academic year, have been enrolled full-time at the school for the entire prior academic year (two semesters or three quarters), and have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.70 or higher in that academic year (excluding any summer grades). Academic All-Big Ten requires a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher throughout the student-athlete's academic career.
Among the 125 football players in the conference, the Buckeyes had two players recognized as Big Ten Distinguished Scholars: wide receiver Carnell Tate and defensive back Lorenzo Styles Jr.
After transferring from Notre Dame in 2023, Styles graduated from Ohio State in May with a degree in consumer and family financial services. He did so alongside his father, Lorenzo Styles Sr., through the department's degree completion program. Styles has twice been an Academic All-Big Ten honoree and is a two-time OSU Scholar-Athlete.
