Besides Deion, who would you take from that list over a 5'9 Darrell Green(in his prime of course)?

When Darrell Green played (in his prime).... They didn't have TO, Randy Moss type or WRs. Green was a great DB in his time.... but if i have to choose now... I'd select Chris McAlister or C Woodson over him

I disagree completely with you.

Lack of fundamentals is what has killed this new generation with the new offense based contact rules...a guy like D Green was always in position and understood cushion and break reads enough to break down a receiver.

As for TO and Moss, they are rarities. Your assertion that their "type" is commonplace in the league is way off base. They are exceptions...not the norm.

TO and Randy may be exceptions now, but you have to agree that the trend is moving towards the bigger WRs. Guys like Mike Williams, Braylon Edwards, Roy Williams last year, just to name a few. You could also include hybrid guys like Kellen Whineslow and Antonio Gates in there as well.

If the WRs keep getting bigger, the CBs will have to grow with them as well.

Roy Williams 6'2
Braylon Edwards 6'3
Mike Williams 6'5

I'd call BMW exceptional in size but the other two are nothing spectacular in that aspect. Also, I'd put Moss in a class of his own in terms of freak athleticism...guys like BMW and TO are gifted in the Mike Irvin body games, but cannot compare to Moss in terms of total package.

I agree with your assertion in terms of growth, but that is obvious everywhere in sports. However, if you look back at my original statements, I said there will always be players that transcend measurables. Darrell Green was one of those players...

Matt Jones of Arkansas is 6'6 and ran a sub 4.5...does that mean he will be a great WR? Who would you choose to win that 1-on-1 matchup? Green or Jones? HOFer or a guy with measurables? In about 5 years, I may have to eat my words, but I am comfortable in my choice right now and for the future...

You are putting HOFer and a college player one on one? Not all tall WRs can be good WRs and not all short fast DBs can be great DBs.

There are 16 DBs in HOF at the moment according to www.profootballhof.com
http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/positions.jsp

Name (year entered in HOF) Position Height Team

Herb Adderley (1980) CB 6'0" GB
Lem Barney (1992) CB 6'0" Detroit
Mel Blount (1989) CB 6'3" Pittsburgh
Willie Brown (1984) CB 6'1" Denver
Jack Christiansen (1970) S 6'1" Detroit
Mike Haynes (1997) CB 6'2" New England
Ken Houston (1986) S 6'3" Houston
Jimmy Johnson (1994) CB 6'2" SF
Paul Krause (1998) S 6'3" Washington
Dick Lane (1974) CB 6'1" Rams, Cards, Lions
Yale Lary (1979) CB, S 5'11" Lions
Ronnie Lott (2000) CB/S 6'0" SF
Mel Renfro (1996) CB/S 6'0" Dallas
Emlen Tunnell (1967) CB/S 6'1" NY, GB
Larry Wilson (1978) S 6'0" Cards
Willie Wood (1989) S 5'10" GB

We are now beginning to argue apples and oranges...

I am not arguing against taller CBs at all...the only piece I added was about the players who transcend measurables.

This thread is a split from the Harrison discussion...he is not ideal height, but I have a feeling he will be a player.

Nothing more, nothing less.

The Jones/Green example is in repsonse to the hyperbolic statements regarding domination by taller receivers...6'6 to 5'9. My own version of hyperbole I suppose.

Personally, I see the philosophy and mostly agree with the taller DB preference....

However, there are guys that transcend measurables...whether or not Brandon Harrison is one of those remains to be seen.

Not to say Harrison (5'8" or 5'9") won't be a player for scUM, but tell me you're not a little excited about him going up against one of the Lyons brothers (I think we get Wesley eventually) inside the red zone. Fade, fade, fade.

No one said anything about my mention of just how scary it can be to have a 5'9" corner going up against a 6'4"/6'5" receiver inside the 20. Brandon Lloyd absolutely had his way with us a couple years back just because of this. Plaxico ruined a possible NC...oh man, I hate having small corners.
