Torrence planning to become a Buckeye

CANTON TWP. - After Devon Torrence finished helping his Canton South High School teammates polish off Canfield, his work wasn’t finished.
It will be this afternoon during a visit to Ohio Stadium to watch the Buckeyes. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound defensive back and offensive athlete plans on telling Buckeye Head Coach Jim Tressel he will accept OSU’s full-ride football scholarship.
Torrence’s verbal commitment brings to eight the number of commitments Tressel has received before the Buckeyes play a down this season.
“As soon as Ohio State offered, I pretty much knew that was where I was going to go,” said Torrence, who will play baseball for OSU as well. “I’m going to tell Coach Tressel after the game, that I’m ready to be a Buckeye.”
Torrence said his mother, Wanda Perrin, step-father Joe Waters and older brother Julius Lancaster helped him make his decision. The only thing that could change Torrence’s mind is the major league baseball draft in May. He could be a high-round draft pick.
“It would be too hard and complicated for me to give up one sport,” Torrence said. “It’s going to be hard to do both at Ohio State, but I’m going to stick it out.”
