CB Denzel Burke (All B1G, All-American)

I'm going to throw out a Chris Gamble comparison quite confidently. It was a toss up if Burke would be a receiver or defensive back at the college level. Despite that, Burke plays CB and somehow excels immediately. Dude has unreal instincts for the position and elite athleticism. Even when Banks is back, this kid is going to play.

I'm not mad at it, but he reminds me a lot of Shawn Springs. Maybe it's the mannerisms, the look, the jersey cut off Burke has reminds me a ton of the older OSU jerseys, etc. Both athletic freaks but he's more burst like with Springs, always felt Gamble was so damn smooth it looked more effortless with him.

Tough life for a true freshman to be compared to two first rounder corner's tho :biggrin:

Burke played the most snaps of any cornerback for a second game in a row to start his Ohio State career, and the most snaps of any defensive player against Oregon, as the true freshman was on the field for all but one of 75 defensive snaps on Saturday.

I can’t figure out how in the world Lejond is playing more than Watts.

Lejond plays like a guy who is just learning how to play. He tackles way too high, he’s slow to react, and takes poor angles. He played worse than Watts when they both played in game 1. What did they see that made them play him more on defense than Ryan?

Locking it down out there. If he keeps getting better and better, by the end of the season and next he'll be a Bradley Roby type player. Right now I look at him like Damon Arnette's Senior season. Just his mannerisms and the way he attacks the ball better each game.

Before the season Sevyn Banks was hyped as an All-American and likely 1st round NFL draft pick.

Has experience taking reps both on the outside and in the slot. Occasionally flashes the quickness to excel in short spaces underneath with receivers in front of him. Can perform in press with his athleticism and physicality at the line of scrimmage. Showcases he can tackle in open space after the receiver makes the catch. Just sayin': (and it is 2 big ifs), 1) If Sevyn Banks stays healthy and lives up (even close) to expectations, and 2) if Denzel Burke continues to improve....towards the end of the season the Ohio State defense could actually have 2 shut down corners.

3 if the same holds true for Cam Brown. This is why I'd be very intrigued with Nickel becoming our base D utilizing Hickman as the Bullet in the box for run support and coverage or blitzing. Half a second longer ability to coverage gives the DL an extra step to getting home and they could use that at the moment.
