CB Bradley Roby (2x All B1G)

He does realize he is part of one of the worst defenses Ohio State has put out on the field in a long time right?

How is that? The defense had a 20-minute meltdown on the road against a ranked opponent that was fueled more by an injury to our starting QB and complete ineptitude by the backup more than anything else. Other than that, and a big play to open the game at Duh U, they've played pretty solid. Today's performance confirmed that...

Alright I'll be the one to say it.....

He is the best CB we've had since Jenkins. He's given up one big play IIRC, the TD against Miami. Other than that nada.....

Both of these guys can play, but the comparison is great because of what both bring mentally on (and off) the field... intelligence is highly underrated at CB

Ohio State football: Roby shows he?s fast learner at cornerback
By Tim May
The Columbus Dispatch Friday October 21, 2011

After Ohio State?s second-half collapse at Nebraska almost two weeks ago, the coaches decided it was best to move on quickly, opting not to review much of the video with the players. Cornerback Bradley Roby understood the reasoning, but he slipped in and watched the whole thing again anyway.

?As a unit we didn?t watch the film, because we know what we did wrong, so we just wanted to move past it,? Roby said. ?But me, individually, I went back and watched the whole game, because I like to watch all of the games and the practices.

?I watch every little thing, because I want to be perfect. So every little thing I mess up on, I look at and take notes on, and I try to fix it the next practice or the next game.?

Thus continues the education of Roby, a first-year starting cornerback.

He?s catching on fast. A year ago he was redshirting, a member of the 2010 recruiting class who originally had committed to Vanderbilt as a receiver before co-defensive coordinator Paul Haynes convinced him he had the makings of a cornerback.

Now he leads the Buckeyes (4-3, 1-2) in interceptions with three as they take a respite on Saturday before diving into the stretch run of the Big Ten schedule next week against No. 4 Wisconsin.

His interception and 36-yard return at the start of the second half last week set up Ohio State?s first touchdown in a 17-7 upset win over previously undefeated Illinois. It was the kind of pivotal play that can accelerate the learning curve, junior cornerback Travis Howard said.

?Any time you have confidence, it loosens you up as a player,? said Howard, who also had an interception at Illinois. ?It allows you to go out there and feel like nothing bad will happen. You can just go out there and be yourself, play your game. You?re not overthinking.

?On top of that, with confidence the game slows down for you a little bit. It allows you to go out there and make plays, take chances. And as you can see with Roby, his confidence is building up.?

Something worth noting in his thread:

On a fairly run of the mill 4-yard sweep; the Badgers' Left Guard, Travis Frederick, pulled and came around left end. He collided with Bradley Roby while still behind the line of scrimmage... and went backwards. Wisconsin lists him at 6-4, 330. Bradley Roby got low and knocked him backwards even though the cheese-eater had a full head of steam.

That kind of physicality from a guy who is great in coverage is rare to say the least.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Roby is going to be a first team all-american before his time here is done. I think he is a BEAST and is so instinctive out there. It should also be noted that teams have been going away from him for the most part when he's in man coverage lately. I thought he had a great pass break up in the 2nd half on a deep throw down the middle. With that said, he also dropped an easy pick on the last drive of the game lol.

I think you're right that Roby is going to end up being a VERY good one. I think DC has the potential to be right there with him and the two are going to form a dominant corner crew in the years to come!

And then came back and had a great pass break up on the very next play.
