CB Andre Amos (official thread)

Cleve - I think that Robiskie would be next in line, then maybe Orton; I don't know if Russell has much interest in OSU at this point, plus he's small, and Tress seems to favor bigger receivers.

If Amos were to commit to Purdue, then I wonder if that would increase the Bucks' chances with Selwyn Lymon, who is also high on Purdue but looking at Ohio State.

LJB...

I'd make that trade, but I really doubt Lymon would care. heck it may help purdue. WR, as we learned last season (Davis Jarrett) is a position where depth charts mean little, at least from my experience. OL and DL are like this too.

Good point, Naples. Actually, I just checked Purdue's roster, and they have 13 WR's returning from last year, plus they signed NINE wide receivers in their 2004 class.

In addition, Purdue may play a lot of WR's, but they don't put a lot into the NFL, especially at the top level; compare to OSU, which has had the following first rounders in the past 20 years: Cris Carter, Joey Galloway, Terry Glenn, David Boston, and Michael Jenkins (with Santonio Holmes looking to be a future first-rounder). Several others have been drafted and/or had some success in the NFL: Chris Sanders, Bobby Olive, Allen de Graefenreid, Brian Stablein, Jeff Graham, Ken-yon Rambo, Reggie Germany, Dee Miller, Jamie Holland, and probably a few more whom I have overlooked (Dimitrious Stanley?).

There's only one thing you need to know about Purdue and their development of WR's. John Standeford set not only the Purdue, but also the Big Ten, record in career receiving yards. Where did he go in this past NFL draft? Umm, he didn't. He wasn't even drafted.

The biggest knocks on him?

1) poor route running skills
2) not a good blocker

Both can be attributed to poor coaching. Those are skills that most high schoolers do not possess, but develop at the college level. They didn't even take the time to properly teach him the position so that he'd be successful at the next level. Michael Jenkins didn't put up Standeford's numbers, but he was a first rounder because he was an excellent route runner with good hands and very good blocking ability for someone coming out of college.

Let's be honest. Amos is not going to make nor break our class at WR. We could just as easily get Orton or Robiskie, who IMO are just as good. We could also hold out hope for Lymon, Carlos Thomas, etc. Remember last year that both of our WR commits came in the last month. Nobody was even talking about Dukes or Lyons at this time, and both look like pretty damn great recruits.

If Amos chooses Purdue, I will wish him luck. As long as he is happy with his decision, that's all that counts.
