For the first time in eight years, Cleveland Cavaliers playoff tickets will be on sale.
The Cavaliers announced yesterday that individual playoff tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday at the arena box office, online or by telephone. Tickets are $12, $31 and $44.
Game 1 of the best-of-seven series will be either April 22 or 23 against Washington, Milwaukee or Indiana. The Cavs have home-court advantage as the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference.
The team last made the playoffs in 1997-98.
Yao facing foot surgery
Houston center Yao Ming will have surgery this weekend on his broken left foot, which could take four to six months to heal, general manager Carroll Dawson said.
Yao was hurt in the first quarter of an 85-83 loss to Utah on Monday.
"It can be fixed two ways," Dawson said. "You could just put a cast on it, but it takes forever. The thing most people do is have the surgery."
Playoff rosters upped to 13
Postseason rosters will expand to 13 this season, with teams deactivating one player before each game.
This will be the first time teams will be allowed to make changes during the playoffs. In the past, they had to stick with the same 12-man roster throughout the postseason.
NBA spokesman Tim Frank said the change was made to give teams the same kind of roster room they had during the regular season.
Player matters
• San Antonio guard Manu Ginobili sat out for the second straight game because of contusions to his left calf and shin. Ginobili, injured against Dallas on Friday, was replaced by Brent Barry.
• Guard Dwyane Wade missed Miami’s game against Toronto because of illness. Shandon Anderson started for Wade.
• Chicago was without forward Luol Deng (concussion) and guard Chris Duhon (back) for its game last night against New Jersey.
Business matters
• Adidas signed an 11-year deal with the NBA, making the German athletic shoe company the official uniform and apparel provider for the league.
• The NBA Development League awarded an expansion franchise to Anaheim, Calif.
