Cavs 2010-11 season (official thread)

I think its VERY important the Cavs have a positive season next year. They suck, and I feel like you'll let an Indians/Browns mentality creep in and thats the last thing this franchise needs. If they can make the playoffs, and then build next off-season to improve, I like that much better than scrapping the team and starting over. It was diffeernt for OKC b/c they had nowhere to go but up. If Cleveland falls in the tank, it could be a Minnesota type rebuild.

I think they should do a S&T with Miami even if it means helping LeBron. I've read they could get Minnesota's first rounder out of it? Is Minny for some reason sending a pick in the Beasley deal? Anyways, you could end up with an early first, and mid round round pick coming off a playoff season.

That'd be best case scenario in my book.

And I hoop Mo sticks around for this season. I think LeBron leaving allows his game to open up a bit and let him be the player he was in Milwaukee. Our starting 5 looks solid with some youth and guys who have been ready to start but been waiting in the wings. Andy and Hickson have potential to be a very good 4 and 5 combo.

The last I read, Minnesota would receive Beasley and a Miami first rounder, the Heat would receive a Minnesota first rounder and second rounder. I think the Heat trading Beasley and getting a surefire lottery pick along with their salary relief is incredibly lopsided and a robbery. It's a good move on the Heat's part if they can hold onto it though, because it's probably their best chance at adding future quality depth after the dust settles on this bonanza. I wouldn't mind if the Cavs could pry that away. They've needed a lottery pick in the worst way ever since 2004.

brazilian chicks, sunshine, sand, draft picks and players to be named later/future considerations...
brazilian chicks - have aids (see Johnny Holmes partners here)
sunshine - that we could use but throw in a sunscreen manufacturing plant
sand - will be loaded with BP oil
draft picks - in round three for years 2024, 2026 and 2031
players to be named later - this they have in quantity
future considerations- Cuba?

HoopsHype - NBA Salaries - Cleveland Cavaliers
current cap situation.

for next year
jamison 13.4 -- get rid of jamison, i feel bad for him...goes from one bad team to another....trade him to a contender
williams 9.3m---begged not to get traded so now he gets his wish
varejao 7m---keep
west 4.7m?---bye
gibson 4m---keep....gibson could do very well in scott's system
moon 2.9m----dont care either way...might as well keep
parker 2.9m---same as moon
telfair 2.7m---keep...see if he can finally evolve into what everyone thought he could be...plus i like him in scotts system
hickson 1.5m---no brainer, keep
williams 1m---without lebron feeding him wide open 3's his value plummeted...cleveland guy tho so hang onto him i guess
powe 915k---just picked up his option i thought so hes a cav this year

so with that our starting 5 is

PG-williams
SG-Parker
SF-Jamison
PF-Hickson
C- Verejao

obvious needs: lebron

j/k...we need a center for sure...i would see what minnesota wants for Al Jefferson...i know he gets hurt alot but hes not that old around lebrons age...i would be more sellers then buyers next year thats for sure....12 mill in cap room and not a solid roster wont win you very many games and not good position for draft lottery

id demand Minnys 1st rounder and Mario Chalmers

then ship Delonte out

Man, it scares me to think about them taking it into the tank for a lottery pick. They need to ride their winning mentality and emotions from LeBron into a playoff season. They go into the tank, and all of a sudden people expect mediocrity because LeBron left.

If they tank next year, I'm calling for a Timberwolves type drought after Garnett left. I know Gilbert expects great things, but you're playing with fire once you get on the losing train. It's hard to pull a frnchise out of that without great players. They still have a solid core, IMO...just missing a super-star. I think they should fight tooth and nail for every win, make the playoffs, and focus on free agency and trades until we get a player we can rely on. That guy may come through the draft, maybe through a trade, or free agency...but you give up on this core, start giving away pieces building for the future, and you one or two poor draft picks and you're a basement dweller for 10 years....

I especially agree with the second part...I mean can't we trade West and some guns to be named later for, like, Golden State's backup point guard and a couple of those sweet throwbacks or something?

I agree with this, if they tank, they ain't coming back for a loooonng time...they will be the Nets last year, only with their record but without their hope or young talent. Need to at least keep heads above water.

Very true.

Just hours ago, I was against a sign and trade that would give LeBron more money.

Now though, I see the need for the franchise to conserve whatever momentum it still has. I also see the need for them to add talent through a lottery pick. I think they need to do a sign and trade and get that T-wolves first rounder that Miami just got. I guess the best way to look at it is they'd be buying a high draft pick with somebody else's money.

draft and trades is how we are going to have to build this team from here on out unless we land some local talent...no way we can land any good free agents because its cleveland....and the reaction from alot of players in the league towards dan "the man" gilbert is negative....and sadly the only local superstar for the next 100 years who could pull in anyone was here and gone in 7 years...i will be more interested to see how many fans show up for games next year....see how much attendance falls and how much money the city loses....
