Cavs 2010-11 season (official thread)

Things aren't looking good for Danny Green:

http://news-herald.com/articles/2010/10/13/sports/nh3160372.txt

I was looking at the roster yesterday and it looks like a 3 man battle for 2 roster spots between Manny Harris, Samardo Samuels, and Danny Green. My money is on Green not making it since the other two seem to have more upside and current management has no ties to Green.

i like harris 50 times more then green...harris is just more raw and has way more potential to be a better player...and he has more of a competitive edge and fire that i dont see in green...after watching harris's last game vs dallas i think it would be a huge mistake cutting him

So Harris beat out Green for the last spot on the bench. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for the Cavs to start moving some of the big contracts. I'm guessing they will be happy to give Jamison to anyone that wants to take his contract. Mo, Parker, Moon, and maybe even Andy might be out there for the right price. Noted Andy's price would be pretty high, but with his style of play he might not have too many peak years left and it's time to play moneyball.
The problem with the Cavs and the NBA is the only way to built a great team without a superstar on your roster is with high draft picks and I think the Cavs are in the middle ground where they don't have a chance to win a title, but they won't have a good chance in the lottery either. If you want to rebuild in a place like Cleveland you pretty much have to suck for a few years in a row or at least one year and get really lucky with your draft pick(s). I don't see Gilbert being content with that, but you can't build a championship team out of Hickson and Eyenga type draft picks. Unless they work some magic I see a lot of 10 to 20th draft pick type finishes over the next 4 years.
I can't really come up with a best case scenario for this season. Perhaps a first round matchup with a injury plagued Heat team that the Cavs end up winning would be the best. I wouldn't be totally hurt if they turn all of the above players into draft picks, finish in the bottom 5, and use all the picks to end up with 2-3 of the top players in the draft over the next 2 years. The one bright spot is that Gilbert has a ton of money invested in Cleveland now with his casino so I'm sure he wants to do what it will take for the Cavs to be good again to help bring people in.

i can see the cavs having an all out fire sale before February if not sooner...i think chris grant is smart enough to get value for the older players on the team...no doubt teams will want jamison, parker and mo around the trade deadline...i think verajo's contract goes till 2014-2015 so i can also see us moving him since HOPEFULLY around that time we will be a competitive team with a young solid core and verajo will be not apart of the picture for the future but that is something im less sure of...i could see this team make the playoffs but i would rather see us trade for draft picks and younger players with very good upside instead...the odds of us winning a championship this year are .000001 percent so why not get what you can for some of your trade assets...and we also have the trade exemption we could use...i wish windhorst was still around to ask if we could combine trading a player along with using our trade exemption to get some sweet deal of draft picks and a younger player like a mike conley....as bad as it is that lebron left im still a big time cavs fan and will watch alot of this season

I won't be watching any Cavs games this year. Unless DishNetwork works their shit out with Fox Sports.

I'll actually watch a few games this year... when nothing else is on and I want to get away from the wife.

But I will be interested in seeing what this team can be without LeBron. I really think they won't be that bad. I can easily see a 6-8 seed type team.

But the fan in me knows that isn't the way it should be done. If I was the owner I would be telling my GM to get as many young cheap assets as possible to rebuild the team the correct way to compete in 2-3 years (ok, like 3-5years)

But Dan Gilbert refuses to do it that way. He wants to win now and does not want to do what is right and take a few steps back to move forward. I fully expect times to be like they were with Fratello. (Not the slow pace, but the just missing the playoffs or being 6-8 seeds). Basically too good to suck, but not good enough to mean anything.

So why the heck am I going to watch this year? Cuz dang it... I really hope this team is really good and that the LeBron-centric offense prevented other players from shining and I really really hope we can be decent enough to beat Miami and in a perfect word make some noise in the playoffs just to spite all the people that said that the Cavs had sucky players besides LeBron. Cuz I would love to see LeBron squirm when a LeBronless Cavs team ends up being the #5 seed or something like that and an injury riddled Miami teams ends up being a lower seeded than the Cavs.

And yes... I am smoking some good stuff

The Lebron-less, Shaq-less Cavs against the Redd-less Bucks tonight at the Schott. The anticipation of going to this game is just killing me.

trade rumor going around

Cleveland Cavaliers Get

1. Danilo Gallinari
2. Anthony Randolph
3. 1st round pick

NY Knicks Get

1. Carmelo Anthony

Denver Nuggets get

1. Wilson Chandler
2. Andersen Varajao

if we could get gallinari, randolph and a first rounder for verajo i would do that

Who's first round pick... i think the Knicks are in the same situation as the heat... no first rounders for the next 10 years (yeah it might be the cause but i'm going for exaggeration).. but yeah i'd do that deal in a heart beat.

i think the article said it would come from NYK, who has no draft picks in 2011 or 2012 according to realgm

http://www.realgm.com/src_future_draftpicks.php

i dont care if the draft pick is in 2015...stock piling draft picks is the way to go...if we trade none of the draft picks we are given we have for the next 5 years

2011 - 1st RD pick, 2 2nd Rd picks
2012 - 2 1st RD, 2 2nd RD
2013 - 2 1st RD, 2 2nd RD
2014 - 1st RD, 2nd RD
2015 - 2 1st RD, 2nd RD

and whatever we can aquire this year from Mo, jamison, or verajo....i think the state of this franchise isnt as bleak after LeBitch left...must have good picks that come thru tho, bottom line

interested to see how we do tonight...it was obvious miami is going to have huge problems all year with teams that have a solid post presence like boston and orlando, so i wonder how this will effect us without a true center...i think we can run against boston but we have to do a good job of slowing rondo down mainly in transition...not sure if mo is going to play tonight and i know verajo and jamison will be rusty so this could mean more running and shooting perimeter shots...if we play like we have been in the pre-season and carry it over to our first game then i think we have a good chance to win...vegas has boston as a -3.5 favorite and the o/u is at 187
