So Harris beat out Green for the last spot on the bench. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for the Cavs to start moving some of the big contracts. I'm guessing they will be happy to give Jamison to anyone that wants to take his contract. Mo, Parker, Moon, and maybe even Andy might be out there for the right price. Noted Andy's price would be pretty high, but with his style of play he might not have too many peak years left and it's time to play moneyball.
The problem with the Cavs and the NBA is the only way to built a great team without a superstar on your roster is with high draft picks and I think the Cavs are in the middle ground where they don't have a chance to win a title, but they won't have a good chance in the lottery either. If you want to rebuild in a place like Cleveland you pretty much have to suck for a few years in a row or at least one year and get really lucky with your draft pick(s). I don't see Gilbert being content with that, but you can't build a championship team out of Hickson and Eyenga type draft picks. Unless they work some magic I see a lot of 10 to 20th draft pick type finishes over the next 4 years.
I can't really come up with a best case scenario for this season. Perhaps a first round matchup with a injury plagued Heat team that the Cavs end up winning would be the best. I wouldn't be totally hurt if they turn all of the above players into draft picks, finish in the bottom 5, and use all the picks to end up with 2-3 of the top players in the draft over the next 2 years. The one bright spot is that Gilbert has a ton of money invested in Cleveland now with his casino so I'm sure he wants to do what it will take for the Cavs to be good again to help bring people in.
