Cavs 08-09 Season - Central Div Champs (official thread)

Well, Smith got bought out tonight. If they sign him before midnight, he's able to be on the playoff roster. Very nice. I'll take Smith over Mikki Moore and the poison pill himself, Mebury.

Anyone watch Mike Brown's post game presser ? He was pissed about the scorers table fucking up Delonte's foul count, deservedly so. For all the shit he's taken here, he's proving to be a damn fine coach. It also helps alot that that other guy (can't remember his name), does a great job with offensive plays.

After getting their ass kicked in Houston, they've sucked it up and got two BIG wins on the road. Even if they stumble tomorrow, to be able to win two of four hard road games in five days is great. Here's to another victory tomorrow.

Joe Smith will be playing by Wednesday's game.

All he had to do was be bought out by midnight. Now he has to clear waivers and can sign Wednesday. It sounds like the Cavs had a hand with him getting bought out, but it sounds like it's all but a done deal. If it does go through Gooden will go to the Spurs, although I'm sure he wishes he was the guy coming to the Cavs. Both of them are prime examples of you have to give up something to get something. We wouldn't have Mo, West, Wally, or Ben without moving those guys. Hopefully they can have a better game tonight and Miami isn't hot like they were the last time we played them down there.

You're right , Hawg. The key was being bought out by Sunday night. Now it will take 2 days to clear waivers and he'll be a Cav in time for the Bucks game Wednesday night.

Gooden is going to San Antonio.

So, now that Smith is returning, Ferry basically traded Mo Williams for Damon Jones. That should be the clear winner for NBA trade of the year.
Great job Ferry.

More proof of Ferry for Exec of the year:

Shannon Brown
Larry Hughes
Drew Gooden
Ced Simmons

For

Joe Smith
Wally Z
Ben Wallace
Delonte West
Darnell Jackson

Those two nuggets are for the naysayers bitching that Ferry didn't make a big deadline deal this year. (not posters here)

If he really wanted to he probably has enough money to bring back Gooden as well. Not that he would do that.

I'll admit to being frustrated about the lack of a deadline deal this year, but not because of anything Ferry did or did not do. He has made one smart move after another, and has quietly put the Cavs in a position to be able to do pretty much whatever they want or need to do to maintain and improve the roster. I appreciate that he has stuck to his principles and not compromised anything to make a splashy move.

Assuming Smith is added... do we need to make a roster move? Does someone need to come up with an ailment?

I wouldn't object to Gooden being added if we didn't have to do something stupid... I think Lebron actually liked Gooden... and if Drew would get that 'deer in the headlights' brain fart thing going on.. we can sit him now instead of having to start him... HUGE DIFF

Trey Johnson just ended his 2nd 10 day contract so I'm guessing he's on hold until they make a move. Eric Snow is a doctors visit away from coming off the books. If I heard correctly the Cavs have around 3.5 mil (already prorated) that they can use to sign whoever they can get. I would have no problem with giving one of them 2 mil and the other 1.5. Only problem is both have the same agent as Andy so the Cavs will be lucky enough to sign one of them even if both want to come to Cleveland. I just hope they stay with Z and Andy as the starters until Ben comes back.

Hickson just dunked on D. Wade for an and-1. Its that type of potential that makes me glad we didn't have to give him up at the deadline.

They need to make him spend the summer with Ben Wallace. Put on another 20-30 lbs of muscle and help him learn what to do on D from Ben and he can be a great player. This scoring will be there, but defense is where he is going to need to earn minutes.

Agreed... an offseason and one more regular season learning from Ben SHOULD help him.
