Spay and Stay Statistics

Since the inception of its trap-neuter-return program in June 1, 2002, Spay and Stay has sterilized 1,305 cats in Lake County, Illinois.

Of the 1,305 stray and feral cats sterilized and vaccinated through our TNR program:​

• 696 were females
• 609 were males

Estimating that a female can have two litters per season, which is a conservative estimate in some cases, with an average of four kittens per litter, sterlizing 696 females has prevented the birth of 5,568 kittens in one breeding season.
696 females x 8 kittens per season = 5,568 kittens
This estimate does not include the secondary litters, which would have been born to these kittens when they reached reproductive age — as early as six months
