Not that they'll make it really obvious, but most companies have several sub-companies (GEICO Preferred vs. GEICO Indemnity). If you have had any tickets or accidents within 6 months, you're far less likely to get into the top tier.
If you do call GEICO in particular, when giving your occupation, make it sound as impressive and responsible as possible. Executive Assistants, for example, could pay far less than secretaries because it can strongly influence the company you end up in. Insurance companies can underwrite using just about anything, from occupation to color of car to what kind of shoes you wear, as long as they can prove that it indicates likelihood of an accident.
Also, see if tOSU or whatever other college you attended gets a discount... lots of alumni partnerships out there.
Awful business... I got out of it about five seconds after their contributions to my grad school fees ran out. You have to say things like, "Sir, I'm happy to let you know that we will be pleased to insure your vehicle for the low, low rate of only sixteen thousand dollars every six months." That's right, $16,000. The guy had 12 DUIs, a bunch of accidents, and an expensive sports car - how he was licensed and out of jail I dunno. And they still made me say "low" twice.
