Car buying - anyone own a 2005 Explorer or Mercury Mountaineer?

Thinking about buying one of these due to the pricing. They all have that employee discount thing going on...BUT both of these ALSO have 4,000 cash back. Can pick up a nice SUV for about 24-25K now.

Just seeing if anyone owns one or even a 2004 model and what you think abou them or have even heard ....

love the cash back deal right now on these.

I am sure you are wise enough to compare the low interest versus the cash back. I did not realize the Explorers had so much cash back. I came close to pulling the trigger on an F-250 but the buyer of my truck backed out.

I am a Ford man due more to styling and room more than anything else. I own a 1996 Explorer and a 1997 F-150. Both have 90,000+ miles and are still going strong. I abuse the F-150. I guess it comes down to what you want at what you can afford. Most vehicles today are of good quality although you will get the occasional lemon.

If you google explorer as SIMV said you should find the Ford Truck Enthusiasts site. I know my spelling sucks. They have a section on all Ford trucks and SUV's. Just remember these are the guys that will work on their engines themselves so they have different view than the casual buyer.

One of our friends has an Exporer but I think it is a 2004. She drives the wheels off of it and has had no trouble.

Good luck and let us know what you buy. The 2006's have the Ford Family pricing but not the cash back or lower interest rates. Not much difference between the 05 and 06.
