  • I sent my boss an email on Monday requesting Friday June 24th off to drive to Cbus for a wedding rehearsal/wedding on saturday. he replies back yesterday afternoon around 330 (i leave at 4) saying "no, you waited too long to ask and someone else is out that day" - this has never been an issue for 2 of us to both be off at the same time. he sends me another email at 415 asking me to work late next monday b/c we have a service guy coming in (basically babysit) and he made plans with his girlfriend. my reply was simple

"i cant work late, you waited too long to ask, and i already have plans"

what a dick, tells me no i cant have a day off then asks me to work late, what a great fucking guy!

and to top it off, last week i told him something private (family health issues) to explain why i would be missing some days in May, and TOLD him that this is to be treated as confidential information, and that if anyone asks why i'm out to just tell them that i am using PTO. what does he do...goes to a senior management meeting and proceeds to tell EVERYONE in senior management (8 people), so now i've got 8 people pretending to care and asking me all kinds of questions. I am still so pissed off at him. what a scum bag, tells me that my secret is safe and that i can feel free to share this stuff with him if i just need someone to talk to, and then goes and blabs it all around. When i confronted him about it, he said "well i thought they would all treat it as confidential information"

sorry just needed to vent...feel free to make fun of me now :)

Uh yeah we're going to need you to come in on Saturday. Thanks that would be great. We'll probably need you to come in on Sunday as well.

I have to say I get paid shit, but my work environment is a lot easier to put up with that yours. If I got paid good money I would love my job.

Maybe you should change for avatar to this. :p

Dude, your boss sucks. Sounds like it might be time to update the old resume and start looking for somewhere else to be miserable. :)
Nah, just donkeypunch the bastard. A boss that is afraid of you is better than anyone else. And tell him you're going to sue his ass, and the company as well, for disclosing personal info.

i honestly send out approximately 5-10 resume's every couple of weeks, and email 2-3 every day (while at work of course :) )

i drive 120miles per day to and from work, get paid shit (finally make more than the girl in the MAILROOM), there just aren't any tech jobs in NE ohio, time to think about a new career path

Be sure to tell him about your huge gun collection and how you have dreams about shooting people.

It sounds like a "great job in IT" just opened up in Canton. Although you may have to move in with your wifes parents to work there.

Did you ever think about teaching?

I love it and the pay isn't that bad considering you work 9 months a year plus, the benefits and retirement are kick ass.
i've never really thought about teaching, that would mean a bunch more school, and i still never finished my 1st degree (got really lazy, started working full time and quit going)

    Brutus,

If you are really looking to stay in IT in that part of the state, I would contact some of your local IT consulting firms. With the economy, and IT in the state it is in right now most companies would rather just outsource certain projects, and jobs rather than pay for a full time employee that they may not need forever. If you talk to some of the IT recruiters up there they can work with your skillset, and try to place you somewhere that is a good fit. The nice thing is a lot of times the jobs are temporary but by the time the job ends you have an option to stay. (not always) but it also gives you the opportunity to leave if the place sucks. Some consulting firms will even pay you while you are "on the bench" in between jobs.

I know several guys who do this, and they enjoy it. It changes and you get the opportunity to do different things.

I don't know who the local companies are up there, but I am sure there are a bunch of them.

There should be several national offices up there for companies like IBM,

    also these

    Keane
    Modis
    kforce
    ajilon

They may not have an office right in Y-town, but somewhere nearby.

there are probably even more that are just local companies too.
