Calling all lawyers/law students...

Oh, yeah. For whatever reason, the cop who came out would never do the report himself, so I did file one. (Very annoying, since he spoke to both the witnesses who kindly waited around for probably more than an hour for him to show up.) He did give me his card, with a "report number" but he didn't want to write it up himself.

My thought was if I could access her driving history, I'd know whether she has a record of causing accidents, driving uninsured, etc. that would clarify whether she's likely to have more than Safe Auto-level minimal insurance.

PS I did try calling records yesterday, and they transferred me to another department where--of course--I got an answering machine instead of a person.
With a report the police or your own insurance company should be able to access the insurance information and driving history of the other party. It's good you did what you did. Yeah, it might be a pain though.

The state is really the best way to go (or a background search place, like for employment). Lexis, at least last time I used it, and I tracked a LOT of people in hiding down with it (voter registrations, tax assessor records, boat registrations, professional licenses, etc.), has shit for driving anything, and isn't really that great at criminal records either.
