Asteroid Could Hit Earth

Dec 23, 2004 4:03 pm US/Central
LOS ANGELES (AP) Scientists say you shouldn't worry, but there's a small chance that an asteroid could hit Earth 25 years from now.

The asteroid is about the length of four football fields, and has just received a rating of "two" on a ten-point scale that predicts impact.

Until now, no asteroid has received a rating higher than one.

But scientists stress that more data could easily downgrade that rating. Overall, they say it's unlikely that the asteroid could hit.

If it does crash into Earth, though, the impact would be serious -- potentially creating a Tsunami in the ocean or heavy damage on the ground.

But, again scientists say the mathematical chances it will hit are small. One says the odds are 300-to-one against it.

The superstitious may find reason to fear. If the asteroid hits, it would be on April 13th, 2029. That would be a Friday, the Thirteenth.

Bruce Willis as Harry S. Stamper: You telling me you don't have a backup plan? That these eight Boy Scouts right here, that is the world's hope? That's what you're telling me?

Billy Bob Thornton as Dan Truman: Yeah.

Harry: Oh Jesus! Dammit!

I hope it doesn't hit his yard so that we can be spared all of the pictures he would post of it.
THATS funny

300 to 1!? THOSE ARENT SMALL CHANCES! winning the lottery is like a billion to one....and getting hit with an asteroid is only 300-1?! what the fuck is that?

they can pinpoint the exact day 25 years from now when it would hit but they dont know if it will hit earth or not? how the shit do they do that?

I'll quit posting pictures as long as you don't have to mention religion or your fiancee in every other post.

Too bad Harry Stamper can't save people from tsunamis!:roll1:<!-- / message -->
