Cal Poly vs. Ohio State

Cal Poly is one of the best FCS teams there are.. We had a pretty good go at Wisconsin this year, putting on more rushing yards than any FBS team was able to do against Wisconsin in the season (that says something).

It would be so amazing to come and play the Buckeyes as one of your FCS 'freebees'.. it would probably be a better draw than most other FCS match-ups.. We have beat FBS San Diego State twice in our last few match-ups, and we beat UTEP a while back lol..

If you're going to play an FCS team, may as well make it one of the better ones.. Hope to play the Buckeyes if you need to fill a hole in the schedule :)

We played Youngstown State twice only because:

  1. We could now play them without being "penalized" for playing an FCS team
  2. They're an in-state team
  3. Tressel was their HC for 15 seasons

Chances of us playing another FCS team is pretty small.

Let's hope so. In my opinion, Ohio State should never schedule another FCS team.

That's too bad..

That's interesting that the Buckeyes are making it a policy not to play FCS teams anymore.. guess it's a lose-lose situation for a big FBS team, you're damned if you do..

Anyway, wish Cal Poly luck when we play at Ohio University in Athens September 19th.. :wink2:

here's a picture of our stadium in case you're curious:

In addition to all the other reasons why we shouldn't be playing FSC team; it isn't fair to the all the loyal alumni (who get in a lottery for one game a year) and get the FSC/1A team vs Ohio State game. For what Ohio State charges for the tickets, I think everyone should be entitled see to a Division 1 opponent.

Other than Youngstown State, tOSU hasn't played a team outside of the major college division since prior to 1937, when the major college division was formed.

An exception was made for YSU due to Tressel's ties to the school and the region.

Edit - Since tOSU played YSU, that leaves only USC, UCLA, Notre Dame and Washington as never having played a 1-AA team.

A little-known Big Ten tiebreaker came to light last year when the possibility of tOSU missing out on the automatic BCS bid due to having played less FBS opponents than another team involved in a potential 3-way tie (MSU). The 3-way tie-breaker for 2008, if each of the teams had a 1-1 record against each other, is that the team that played the fewest FCS (1-AA) opponents would have received the Rose Bowl bid. MSU would have gone since PSU played Coastal Carolina last year. The tiebreaker was a moot point after Iowa upset PSU.

That tiebreaker rule has been eliminated for the upcoming season.
