Cal being held back by its roots

an imbecility, a stupidity without name
It's all fun and games until Tedford decides Berkeley isn't worth the hassle.

University Fences In a Berkeley Protest, and a New One Arises

BERKELEY, Calif., Sept. 7 In many ways and for many months, the protest outside Memorial Stadium at the University of California has been business, and Berkeley, as usual.

On one side are the protesting tree lovers who have been living Tarzan-like since December in a stand of coastal oaks and other trees. On the other is the university, which wants to cut down the trees to build a $125 million athletic center, part of a larger plan to upgrade its aging, seismically challenged football stadium.

I love San Francisco and Bezerkeley. Lived there for two years and only moved because I could not afford it on a teacher's salary. If I hit the lottery (twice) I'd move there in a heart beat, but the place does have a penchant for shooting itself in the foot.

When the shippers wanted to clean up the waterfront (and the Longshoremen's Union) San Francisco stood by the workers. As a result Oakland is now one of the busiest shipyeards in the Pacific and the warehouses of San Francisco are now art galleries.

The Navy Yard, Mare Island, Oakland Army Depot and Presidio brought lots of DoD money to the region... until San Francisco voted itself a nucular free city and DoD looked for other places to spend their tax dollars.

On the other hand, when the Giants wanted a new stadium the Bay area voters told them to buy their own. Would that other municipalities, especially Cincinnati, had had the same courage.

a cherry picker, a tub of kerosene, and a match would solve that problem. give the hippies the option of jumping into the cherry picker whenever they want....then set the base of the tree on fire.

I don't think that kerosene is the best idea. That stuff stinks like a fart after White Castle. There's gotta be better fuel.

If Tedford goes this isn't an issue and they will go back to sucking at Cal. If scUM had half a brain they'd grab Tedford next year to replace captain choke. That being said, I hope the hippies are ready to leap from thier flaming trees... Speaking of whcih can we get a hippie on fire smilie, not that we could use it often, but still.

The tree protest is getting way old - the general student feeling toward them is one of disgust.

They don't realize that their own feces and piss is hurting the trees that they're trying to 'save.'

Those protesters aren't even students at Berkeley. That's the stupidest thing.

Actually, no, the stupidest thing is that the university promises to bring in three new saplings for each one they cut down, and they still won't move.

Isn't that the way it always is Oneshot, the ones who it doesn't affect being idiots. Trust me Miami was the same way with asshole students trying to get on my shit for crossing a full-time picket line. As a broke student employee I was told I could be fired if I supported the union as I was not allowed in it. But I had this yuppies try and tell me what I was doing was wrong. Now I have been a union baby since birth My dad's a HS janitor and my mom works for a state beaurocracy. So when one of these pompous silver spoon idiots had the gull to acuse me of being a traitor... let me tell you I may have bounced one or two forceably from the dining hall I worked in. Let the people it actually affects worry about it.
