Too soon old, too late smart
Wow. This is certainly going to be a step up for Penn St wrestling. This guy won every single college wrestling match from his freshman to his senior NCAA. Legend at Iowa St as coach, and will definitely strengthen Penn St's wrestling program. I believe it's good for the Big 10 as a whole that coaches of this caliber are coming on board to help lead programs. Must have been a great package to get him to leave Iowa. He said that the better caliber of wrestler in Pennsy versus Iowa (and having to compete with U of Iowa) was a key for him.
Implications for OSU - my first thought is uh-oh, the Buckeyes are going to lose some great recruits. Well, probably, as you can't get 'em all, just as in football. But I also believe that the new coach has solidified OSU's standing in two-three short years and made OSU a powerhouse. It seems like the Buckeyes are getting more Ohio boys to stay in-state and wrestle for OSU. With the success the program is experiencing, I think (and hope) that the trend will continue. If he could get the best in Ohio every year, then OSU would be #1 each year. Overall, having Cael at PSU will strengthen the B10, and continue to make it the premier wrestling conference (sorry Big 12) in the nation. Notre Dame has the most to worry about, methinks. Whaddya say, Chief?
