2026 CA DL Richard Wesley (Texas Verbal)

Richard Wesley visiting Columbus on Friday

Larry Johnson and Ohio State will have a chance to impress one of the top defensive ends in the 2026 class.

Five-star standout Richard Wesley announced he’ll be visiting Columbus on Friday and also has visits set up to Texas A&M and Tennessee over the next few weeks. He just came off a visit to Texas last weekend.

Johnson and OSU offered the California prospect on March 3. Four days later, Wesley reclassified from 2027 to the 2026 recruiting class. Before he reclassified, he was considered the No. 2 prospect in the 2027 cycle. Based on the 247Sports composite, he’s considered the No. 20 player and No. 3 edge in 2026.

This will be Wesley’s first visit to Ohio State, so making a good impression is key if the Buckeyes want to attempt to add the 6-foot-5, 250-pound standout to their 2026 class.

Last year, Wesley recorded 44 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, nine sacks, eight quarterback hurries, two pass deflections, a fumble recovery and three forced fumbles.

How does reclassifying for DL positions impact OSU's recruiting interest? I've read on here coaches like Hartline do not encourage it for WR, but not sure how the other coaches feel with their groups.

It hasn’t seemed like OSU prefers going after guys who reclassify. It seemed like they pulled up on recruiting Jakheem Stewart in the ‘25 cycle mainly due to that(and he barely played many HS games). Problem with guys who reclassify, losing that last year of development can be a very big deal. Especially along the lines, where he may dominate OL as a Junior, but his senior year the OL may get bigger and stronger and won’t have the same domination weekly. It’s a very tricky choice, but I get that the kids want to start their NIL cycle earlier

Ohio State Buckeyes are set to receive a visit from an elite Oregon Ducks commitment who could be a flip candidate

The Ohio State Buckeyes have 13 commitments in their 2026 recruiting class and currently hold the No. 3-ranked class, according to 247Sports.

Over the next month, Columbus will host a number of key visitors as prospects get a closer look at what the Buckeyes have to offer. The summer months will play a crucial role in shaping how the final class comes together.

Ohio State does not yet have a pass rusher committed, but that could change soon with a high-profile visitor now scheduled to make the trip.

Five-star Oregon commit DE Richard Wesley schedules official visit to Columbus

Sierra Canyon (CA) defensive end Richard Wesley, a five-star prospect who committed to Oregon in early May, still plans to explore his options. Ohio State will host Wesley for his third official visit, scheduled for August 30. His first official visit will be to Oregon on June 6, followed by a trip to Texas on June 20 to meet with the Longhorns.

The talented Wesley is a 6-foot-5, 250-pound pass rusher who is ranked as the No. 2 defensive end in the country, per 247 Sports Composite.

As mentioned, defensive line coach Larry Johnson has yet to secure a commitment for the 2026 class. While flipping Wesley from Oregon would be a challenge, the opportunity is there with an official visit now on the books. Ohio State remains in pursuit of several other top pass-rushing targets they’d love to add to the class.

Looking ahead to the 2025 season, North Carolina transfer Beau Atkinson, along with returners Caden Curry and Kenyatta Jackson, are expected to be the top edge rushers for the Buckeyes following the departures of J.T. Tuimoloau and Jack Sawyer to the NFL Draft.

Getting Wesley on campus so soon after his Oregon commitment is a promising development for Ohio State. Now, it’s a matter of seeing whether the visit takes place as scheduled — and what impact it may have moving forward.

Just sayin': Either he isn't all that committed to Oregon or he's just trying to jack up Oregon's NIL offer.
