C Greg Oden (All B1G, All-American, Defensive Player of the Year, Butler Assistant Coach)

Here is the latest - straight from Greg but not in the media. I know people very close to him and this is what he said:

He and Conley say there are 4 schools, but it is really down to just Wake and Ohio State.

He really wants to play with Conley in college.

Greg will probably not even visit Michigan State, and honestly has no interest in Indiana.

He loved his visit to Wake, but is looking forward to his Ohio State visit.

Right now, Wake probably has a slight lead in his mind.

Obviously, I will take your word on the validity of your post. I have already stated on numerous occasions that Wake and OSU are the two schools they are seriously looking at. Its a fact that Oden wants to play with Conley in college. Indiana is out of the picture according to my sources.

It will come down to how Matta closes the deal on Oden and Conley in my opinion, its that close.

just going by what I have seen over the last several years of following recruiting, if Greg left Wake, with Prosser and the Wake fans/staff/alumni rolling out the red carpet, with them only as his slight leader, having not yet officially visited OSU, we are in extremely good shape...

I am going to take hoopsfan at his word and give him a few greenies for that post...

when i was in south bend i talked to him, great kid, well mannered. his face when i mentioned being from columbus sticks in my head. a nice little grin and "quean loves it there..." and followed by what i would say is a shaqish smile. sticks with me with every updayte-time will tell but i feel optimisitic about this, its been along time since weve seen talent wanting to cometo columbus.

If Greg sees all the elite players that could be coming in with him on his May visit (this goes for Conley, Young, Lighty as well), then I don't see how any of them wouldn't want to attend OSU and rebuild our BBall program back to respctability in the eyes of the critics. They could be held in high regard and talked about for years to come as the best class to ever come into the program (whoever suggested the Thad 5... I like it!!). I am not surprised at all to hear Wake as a slight leader, seeing as how he just got back from there. Greg is going to college...somewhere.

I would have to agree with you on this.....Wake did everything you could possibly do during their visit that is allowed by NCAA rules and yet they are reportedly only a slight lead over OSU.....

I have to believe Matta and staff close the deal on 7-9 May, having the last visit and location is HUGE

this is the spot you always want to be in.

If I were a Wake-Scout subscriber, I would probably be on full Bustnuts-style meltdown alert...

They have been in full meltdown mode for about 5 days now......at this point they believe Matta shot Kennedy and was involved in 911.
couldn't have been Matta...every Buckeye fan knows that those were Pete Carroll's fault...

I agree with your thinking, but I wouldn't put too much stock in that with a kid like Greg. He is very level-headed, and won't give a strong reaction either way. He won't let the red carpet treatment get in the way of sound thinking - he will go where he is most comfortable.

Knowing him, I see him liking the size of Wake much better, but the proximity of OSU will be hard to pass on as he is close with his family. He is also very impressed with Matta.

Wake has been at the top of his list for a long time, as he is a big admirer of Tim Duncan. Maybe you can get Clark Kellogg to give him a call and even the scales!!

Wake has been on top for awhile but what was had happened is simply that OSU has caught up to Wake in Oden/Conley's mind in a very short time.

I believe 100% that Matta will close the deal on their recruitment.

Per Lamb on BN....

Regarding the Oden situation, he feels OSU is the leader but that he is going to play it close to the vest.

(If you believe his opinion, you would have to think Conley has OSU as his leader)

Also,

Daequan Cook's high school team (Dayton Dunbar) will play Oden/Conley (Lawerence North, IN) on December 8, 2005. The game will be played in Indianapolis and may be televised.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
