C Greg Oden (All B1G, All-American, Defensive Player of the Year, Butler Assistant Coach)

It's great to see the big guy begin to get comfortable with life in the NBA. Considering he only played one season in college, and that was one handed, and did not play at all last year, his game (specially on O) should show some drastic improvement as the year goes on. I hope TNT and eSpin continue to show quite a few Blazer games.

Too early to judge Oden's pro basketball performance

Greg Oden is a bust.
That's basically what I heard on the radio on Monday, Nov. 24, about the Portland Trail Blazers rookie center. I'm not buying it. At least not yet.
Call me foolish (and you wouldn't be the first ... or probably the last) but I'm going to give the former Ohio State University star a few more games before I tag him with that moniker. Heck, I might even give him the rest of the season.
The argument is Oden is injury prone, he's clumsy and he isn't putting up elite stats comparable to the likes of Shaquille O'Neal or David Robinson during their rookie campaigns. Through eight games Oden is averaging 9.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.0 fouls. He had a less-than-spectacular showing against O'Neal on Saturday (5 points, 1 rebound, 5 personal fouls). That's good enough to make some people start wondering if the Blazers goofed when they made him the No. 1 pick overall in the 2007 draft.

He has been out for a year. He left college after one year and then spent a year on his rear with an injury.

Anybody surprised that he isn't chalking up Shaq numbers in his first few games at the pro level?

Trailblazer fans, get your bloody heads screwed on straight.

Exactly...relax...he will get there! Besides, we never behave like this as ohio state fans:biggrin:

Greg put up a double-double against Detroit but didn't seem to play as well as his stats suggest. He's really having a difficult time with his footwork and ballhandling, which is to be expected after having to spend so much time resting his knee. Should become a beast next year but right now, Przybilla is Portland's best center.

Blazers' Greg Oden misses easy ones, but his future is a slam dunk

Wednesday, December 3rd 2008, 8:49 AM

Greg Oden wants the rims in the Garden checked.
"I usually don't miss two dunks," Oden said Tuesday night.
In his much-anticipated Garden debut, Portland's celebrated new big man not only saw two of his dunks go in and out during a highly embarrassing stretch lasting a little under 2:00, he wasn't even the best Blazer center on the floor.
He didn't even get out on the floor in the fourth quarter. He spent the entire time sitting in the last chair on Portland's bench, a towel wrapped around his neck, cheering for his triumphant teammates.
No, he's not exactly taking the league by storm.
"But you definitely notice him when he's out there," said Wilson Chandler after the Knicks wilted down the stretch and saw too much of Brandon Roy in a 104-97 defeat. "You can tell he's there. He's a big defensive presence."

5. Greg Oden, Blazers
Want another reason to be bullish on the Blazers? Try this: Oden is hitting only 37 percent of his close shots that are not dunks. And we know he's going to be a better finisher than that.

It's true that teams will be better prepared to defend him after they study him more, but the same is also true in reverse -- as Oden begins to anticipate what's going to happen as he catches the ball, he'll be better at countering the defensive actions he's about to face. The game starts to slow down for players once they can "see" what's going to happen before it does.
