Why is this thread in Football Alumni?
There's not a large enough need for a standalone basketball alumni subforum. (If Matta keeps this up, that won't last for too long ) There also isn't an all-inclusive buckeye forum in which to place a buckeye alumni subforum.

Why would the NCAA expect him to be eligible for 07,08 when he won't be in school. If he was eligible when he withdrew there should be no penalty. Of course were talking about the NCAA here, so all bets, and common sense, are off. Oh, good luck Celtics.....

you know... as long as matta recruits blue chip players, losing one scholarship is not the worst thing in the world. as unc showed last year, going a true 11/12 deep may be too difficult a task to handle. spreading playing time over that many players can diminish flow and cause internal problems. i'm not claiming that their depth was the primary reason for the early exit from the tournament, but it is something to consider.

yes, that is a positive spin. i'd rather not have the scholarship lost. of course, i'm not already conceding that the scholarship is lost. the interesting thing is that by the time that perhaps ohio state would regain that lost scholarship, it may be just the right time to fill it. the team is fine for '07 (but could be better at the guard spot; nothing to be done anyway) and is perfectly fine for '08. i think the earliest that there would be a (great?) need for that scholarship is '09 if koufos and mullens declare before then.

in my humble opinion, a loss of a scholarship for a season or perhaps two may matter more in the court of public opinion than it would on the basketball court. then again, it may be the case that the 13th scholarship will be hard to fill until the program is comfortably over 925.

I think I need a BP intervention or something. Maybe I am the only one who feels this way, and I can live with that. I do not have the same strong feelings towards Oden/Conley as some of you do. I still have some feelings of just being a stop on the way to the NBA. Yeah, I appreciate their contributions and loved watching them play, but I guess my allegiance lies more with the Buckeyes than the players who come through and it would benefit the Buckeyes for them to stay and play at least one more year. I will definitely support them as they continue to the NBA, but I would certainly have felt stronger for them had they played longer in Columbus and most likely, brought us a NC.

:oh:

With stars sidelined, Oden and Durant on Team USA

Greg Oden and Kevin Durant are in, and Tayshaun Prince and Tyson Chandler are joining them.

USA Basketball is making a number of changes to this summer's roster, with the Americans adding the two college stars and a couple of defensive specialists but losing Dwyane Wade and some key players because of injuries.
Managing director Jerry Colangelo is set to announce the additions to the roster at a press conference Wednesday in Las Vegas, where the Americans will train and compete this summer in the FIBA Americas tournament.

I'm hoping he goes to the Celtics. Memphis is the best fit for him from a personnel standpoint, but the future of that franchise is very cloudy.

Seattle would also be a good fit, but I'm hoping for Boston. If he went to Boston, he could very easily lead them to the Atlantic Division title next year.
