Can you name these 6 former Buckeye basketball players?

David Barker, Lawrence Funderburke, Ron Stokes, Judith (Birthday Girl), Perry Carter, Granville Waiters & Troy Taylor

I have no idea who Judith is. :tongue2:

great picture......

Granville was a good player in a Buckeye program that was loaded with top tier talent in the early '80s.

I still can't believe that 1981 team didn't make any noise.

Herb Williams
Jim Smith
Clark Kellogg
Carter Scott
Granville Waiters
Tony Campbell

that's some serious talent

The Marion Star

MARION ? Granville Waiters never thought he would see anyone as good on the basketball floor as Michael Jordan.

These days, he?s not so sure.

Waiters was in Marion on Wednesday as a guest celebrity for the Charity-Celebrity Golf and Dinner Outing at the Marion Country Club, an event which benefits the Marion County Youth Foundation.

Waiters was a 6-foot, 11-inch center who played for The Ohio State University from 1979-83 and in the NBA from 1983-88. He also spent two years playing pro ball in Spain.

He and the Buckeyes went up against Jordan and North Carolina in the NCAA tournament in a 1983 regional semifinal contest.

Even though the Buckeyes came out on the short end of the stick in that game, it?s Waiters? top collegiate memory.

?We lost to North Carolina and Jordan even though we had them at halftime,? Waiters said.

Ohio State led 30-29 at the intermission before the Tar Heels outscored them 35-21 in the second half for a 64-51 victory.

?Once they got ahead in the second half they went to their four-corners offense,? Waiters said. ?There was no shot clock then.?

Another memory of his college days was the good times he had with his teammates, including the likes of Tony Campbell, Troy Taylor, Joe Concheck and Ronnie Stokes.

?It was the camaraderie and the fun we had at OSU,? he said. ?I still talk to some of those guys now and then.?

Buckeye hoops memories

-Give the ball to Granville...gangly center Granville Waiters, a fan favorite in the early 80's due to his looking like a grandpa, hit the buzzer beater vs northwestern, spawning the song, "Give the ball to Granville." He actually improved so much that he played a few years in the NBA with the pacers.
