Buying tickets outside the stadium

Hi, I've only been to 2 games and never needed to buy tickets outside the stadium. I know a lot of people are trying to make a buck, but there must be some just trying to unload extras. When I went to the Ill. game last year I was suprised by the large number of people offering tickets for sale. It definately appeared to be a buyers market. I already had my ticket and did not ask about prices. My questions are...

Is it typical to see a lot of tickets being offered for sale?
Can I assume there many more tickets available for a game vs a lesser opponent than a rival or top tier program?
Did the threat of rain make more people to want to sell?

I'm wanting to go to the Marshall game and I'm seeing some decent (not great) seats on craigslist and the ad reads "face value or best offer". I'm wondering if tickets will be offered before kickoff below face value. Any thoughts? Any input would be appreciated.

There are usually some tickets for sale, but it can be a mere trickle for a game like Iowa last year. Sometimes it is a buyer's market.

Yes, there are usually many more tickets available for 'lesser' opponents. But if tOSU stays undefeated, that may be a smaller amount as the season continues.

Yes, but those same folks don't want to be out selling their tickets in the rain an hour before kickoff. If rain is forecast, meeting somebody earlier in the day may be the best bet.

I've probably scalped my way into at least 20 games in the past few years. The only time I was unable to get in was for the PSU game in 2002. There were literally no tickets available. If you want to scalp, don't do it outside of the stadium. That is where the pros are. Go walk on lane ave or even better go over by the shot and try to catch people coming from the RV lot. Those people have plenty of money and are rarely trying to make any money off of their extra tickets.

Sweet! great info. never thought of the over by the RV lot. Oh, to be one of "those people" (the ones with plenty of money) oh well

That's great advice about the Schott/RV lots.

I'd also suggest you consider trying to line up 2-3 large tailgates day-of-game. If you don't know someone throwing one, tap your friends to help line up some tailgates -- being the 'friend-of-a-friend' brought to a tailgate can sometimes put you in the good graces of a large tailgate group. Oh, and bringing some type of food/beverage to the tailgate never hurts.

If you can find a large tailgate with tv's and hang around for a few hours, you usually will run into someone looking to unload a ticket or two; in the worst case, you'll always have a place to watch the game if you get shutout!

I scored a ticket to 2004 Michigan game this way.
