Buying a new car

Unfortunately my old car has died, and now I am looking for a used car. I really didn't want to get a used car, but I was not expecting to buy a new car at this point. My car just isn't worth what they want to fix it.

I looked at 4/5 that I thought I would like, and I still would like to look at the Acura TL, but after I drove the cars I would say I woiuld put them in this order.

1) VW Passat
2) Honda Accord
3) Nissan Altima
4) Toyota Camry

After I checked consumer reports as far as reliability my thinking has changed slightly to more like this

1) Honda Accord
2) VW Passat
2) Nissan Altima
4) Toyota Camry

I just really didn't like the way the Toyota drove felt or anything. The funnest two cars to drive were the Altima and especially the Passat. But the most comfortable car, by far was the Accord.

I guess I am just curious if any of you have any experiences with any of these cars you wish to share.
 
the first car i ever bought was a nissan pick up....then a 240sx...then an altima and now a pathfinder.....

knock on wood...but in 20 years...i have never done anything but change the oil and wiper blades....not one issue....

I won't buy anything but a Toyota or a Lexus (luxury Toyota). I've owned three Toyotas and currently own a Lexus and in 12 total years of ownership I've literally have had no manufacturer problems at all with any. That being said, since you don't like the Camry, definitely go with the Accord since Hondas are also very well made and you persoanlly like Accord the most overall.

must be the time of the year. My Jeep Grand Cherokee exploded last week. I was in the same boat as you in not being ready to have to buy a new vehical. I was really hoping the Jeep would last another year. Oh well, I hope your experience turns out as well as mine did. I got a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 loaded 4x4 for $10,300! Gotta love having friends in the car selling business!!!

As far as what car you should look at getting, I am afraid I cannot answer. I am very unfamiliar with most "cars". I have always been a SUV/Truck kind guy.

I personally am a huge fan of the Altima, but if you're going used, I would probably go with the Accord as well. I like the looks of the Passat, but VW's are more expensive to maintain (even things like oil changes are more expensive) and the Altima's newer body style. If you can get a 2002 or new Altima, do it. If you need to get an older model, definitely do the Accord.

I have had great luck with hondas and have heard good things about toyotas.

I had a VW jetta and it was a horrible car. Everything kept breaking. I have heard they are hit or miss, and the passets are probably better, but I wil never by VW again. Just my experience.

I would say go with the honda or toyota.

I have experience with a Honda and a Toyota. Both are fine vehicles but my preference is the Honda. It has had no problems in the 13 years I have owned it whereas the Toyota has had a few minor problems.

You can't go wrong with either the Honda or the Toyota but personally (besides the reliability issue) I always felt the Toyota was a little stiffer of a ride as compared to the Honda.

Actually, you would likely be buying an American car, as I know at least the Hondas and Toyotas are usually built by American workers. It's those Mexican-made Chevys and Fords you have to be wary of.:roll2:

I've got to vote for the Altima, and I second what DiHard said. I had a '93 Altima, and then bought a 2000 Maxima, which I still have. Nothing other than routine maintenance for either of them. They are fantastic cars.

I had an Altima once, and it was a great car until some jackassette putting on make-up hit me from the right rear and totalled it. I've also had a lot of other Nissan cars and trucks. They are excellent and I never had a major mechanical problem with any of them. So, I too, vote for the Altima.
