The best part of it was, WSU would get up by 6-8 points, and Butler would come right back. Whenever that happened, the crowd didn't really get nervous and sit on their hands like other crowds I've been in. They stood up and brought more energy to the place, and I think it really gave a boost to the team. I know it sounds hokey, but they didn't sit there waiting for the other shoe to drop when Butler would pull even - they put their collective will behind the team, and I think it made a huge difference in the outcome.

It's a good thing this game wasn't at Hinkle. WSU got ran out of the gym when they played there.

WSU has been dying to make Butler their rival. I think that might be finally starting to take shape. It's a shame UD doesn't have the balls to resume the Gem City Jam and get a real rivalry going.

Anybody catch during the game they were giving a flash of info from Wright State and said that it was the only college in Ohio not named after a city or state? I assumed they meant IA basketball school not named after a city or state, then I thought of Xavier. Who would of guessed, ESPN not confirming a fact before running with it? Or am I wrong and there's a Xavier, Ohio that I'm not familiar with?

You are correct (strictly D1 basketball, there are many, many D3 colleges not named after their city or the state)... another one to add to your list : Miami University is in Oxford, not Miami.

No. They said it was the only state funded college in the state that wasn't named after a city or the state. Xavier is a catholic university.

thanks for the clarification... I didn't watch the game last night so I didn't hear the statement... just going off of what holybuckeye said. Regardless, my :shake: to ESPN still stands! :wink:

BTW, congrats to Wright St. for making it to the Big Dance!

Ok, my bad. Guess I wasn't paying close enough attention...not that I could be faulted for not paying attention to what the ESPN talking heads were saying.

I agree with you about the WSU-UD matchup. Until Wright State puts together consistent success UD has nothing to gain from playing the Raiders and WSU supporters (including myself) should drop the debate. Hopefully this year is a starting point for more success and then we can have a legitimate debate about a WSU-UD matchup.

As for a WSU-Butler rivalry as was mentioned in an earlier post, Wright State has beaten Butler 8 of the last 10 games. If that isn't enough to give Butler extra incentive when playing WSU, the relentless taunting they received last night should be.

Well, Miami is state funded though too isn't it? So wouldn't they count as well?

Back on topic though, that was just a great game to watch last night, especially the first half. Very exctiting and Dashaun Wood is damn good.

Sort of. Miami University(Oxford) is part of a system bearing the Miami University name. So it is state funded. But, if ESPN wants to be dicks about it, they can say that the Oxford campus isn't directly funded by the state, rather the Miami University system of campuses is funded by the state, and that system funds the Oxford campus.

Circular arguments make me sick to my stomache, so if you'll excuse me...:sick1:
