Fired up! Ready to go!
All of your comments seem what I expected (except for the strip club comment :p). My advisor at school said I would have to go on antidepressants if I move there. And I don't know what I would do professionally. There are very few publishing companies in Buffalo (and no university presses, where I've worked since I graduated from ASU back in 1999), and I'm 3 courses away from my 2nd master's degree (so I'm on target to graduate in December). One option is to stay in Boston until I finish; another option is to take independent studies long distance.
I'm trying to look at it optimistically, though. If we do move there, we would be 4 hours from my family (instead of 12) and not to too far from the Finger Lakes and Toronto, Manfred would be able to help establish a Ph.D. program at his university (his school now doesn't even have a M.A. or MFA program), we could afford a decent house, and Barley would be in heaven with all the snow!
He hasn't been offered the job yet, so I'm not trying to stress about it too much, but it's been hard not to go into panic mode! Thanks for all the comments.
