Bucks win Game 1 10-1
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. ? The Ohio State baseball team opened its Big Ten slate with a 10-1 win over Purdue Friday evening at Alexander Field. The Buckeyes improve to 13-6 with the win while the Boilermakers fall to 7-12.
?It?s always important to get the first win of the series under our belt,? Ohio State head coach Greg Beals said. ?We got some key hits but the pitching and defense was rock solid as well. Jaron pitched well again and not only was able to get us off on the right foot but he again was able to eat up innings and keep our bullpen intact for the doubleheader tomorrow.?
Ohio State wasted no time threatening against Purdue starter Brad Schreiber as Tim Wetzel doubled down the left-field line to lead off the game and a Ryan Cypret walk put runners at first and second with nobody out. However, Pat Porter struck out and Purdue catcher Sean McHugh threw out Wetzel trying to steal third for the second out of the inning. Aaron Gretz then hit hard grounder back up the middle that deflected off Schreiber?s glove and right to second baseman Brandon Krieg who threw to first for the final out of the inning.
