Buckeyes off to a blazing start

ya know.. it feels really good when OSU lands a 5-star or 4-star... but then reality sets in...

Is there a coach on the planet that wouldn't trade their 5-star whatever/whenever for little-ol 3-star AJ Hawk...???

sure let's you know that there's not a lot of difference and/or whoever is assigning the stars ain't all that cosmic

I know it's a little off-topic, but since we are discussing former posters, and Mililani hinted at his former post style, whatever became of ol' computerbuck?. I am sorry if I missed the story about this, or if it was a hoax or whatever, but that guy was on a rampage two years ago and vanished.

I have seen a few of his posts on Insiders recently...still angry over us not offering Cadogan since he has played pretty well in the recent all-star games. plus Duane mentioned that Cadogan looked good which is CB's vindication. he is pretty smart poster, but he cracks me up sometimes...

recruiting rankings are nice but its hard to project how a player will develop in college, look at Texas, always up there in recruiting but the class rankings dont match what has happend on the field!

I dont think they have won any sort of championship since 1996? I could be wrong, but they have been in the top five in recruiting since then a few times at least.

JT is getting the kids that want to come to OSU and fit his system....cant argue with the results

Go Bucks!

I read all the time that Texas recruits well but never wins anything. However, I get the feeling that Texas is in the hunt every year. If Texas wins it all this season, all will be well for Mack Brown and the concept that Texas can't win the big games will be a myth.

Is that because the athletes do not have talent or because the coaching staff fails at bringing the team together? Texas puts a number of quality players into the draft. They just can not win the big games.

Texas has only had 10 players drafted in the last 3 years. Surprisingly, Oklahoma has only had 9. Are they developing all that 'talent'? This info needs to get to recruits!

Compare these numbers (source - CFBNEWS.com)

Players selected in last 3 NFL drafts:

28 - Miami
27 - tOSU
22 - Tennessee
21 - Florida
19 - Georgia
18 - N.D.
16 - LSU
15 - Va. Tech
14 - tsun
13 - Florida St.
13 - Iowa
13 - Nebraska
13 - Stanford
13 - Oregon
13 - Colorado
13 - Alabama
12 - Pitt
12 - UCLA
12 - Kansas St.
12 - Penn St.
12 - Purdue
11 - Wisconsin
11 - USC
11 - South Carolina
10 - Texas
10 - North Carolina
09 - Oklahoma

edit - added more teams with between 10 and 13 players

That is a ringing endorsement for the Big Ten, or at least the coaches of the Big Ten. The coaches of the Big Ten are obviously developing their players very well. 6 of the Big Ten's 11 schools made it into the Top 19 to place players in the draft over the last 3 years? Good job Big Ten. Really puts into perspective our magical run in 2002 doesn't it. We had to make our way through some real talent to get to the national title game. Then of coarse notice the team at the top of the list is the same team we beat to get the National Championship.

When I said "quality players" I was referring to high round draft picks (not that lower round draft picks do not succeed). If you look at first round draft picks over the same timeframe, it tells a different story.

15 - Miami (Fla.)
6 - Texas
5 - Ohio State
4 - Georgia
4 - Michigan
4 - Wisconsin
3 - Arizona State
3 - Florida
3 - Florida State
3 - Tennessee
3 - Virginia Tech
2 - Arkansas
2 - Boston College
2 - Mississippi
2 - North Carolina
2 - North Carolina State
2 - Oklahoma
2 - Syracuse
2 - Tulane
2 - UCLA
2 - Washington
1 - Ala.-Birmingham
1 - Auburn
1 - California
1 - Clemson
1 - Colorado
1 - Fresno State
1 - Hawaii
1 - Iowa
1 - Louisiana State
1 - Miami (Ohio)
1 - Michigan State
1 - Minnesota
1 - Missouri
1 - Northwestern
1 - Oklahoma State
1 - Oregon
1 - Oregon State
1 - Pittsburgh
1 - South Carolina
1 - Southern California
1 - Texas Christian
1 - Western Michigan

I could be wrong but a case could be made; ND makes the least of their talent.
Before SC turned it around, I would have put them at the top of the list.
