Also - I wanted to make this a separate post so it didn't get lost...
In compiling the information that I've been working on, I noticed something odd with the way final standings are done by Yahoo. Because of the stupid consolation playoff that the 7th-10th place teams are thrown into, the standings can get re-shuffled at the bottom in games that nobody pays attention to, and that affects the next season's draft order.
Last season, jwinslow (not picking on you) went 0-13 during the regular season, but is listed as the 7th place finisher because he won the consolation playoff, likely out of dumb luck without even paying attention to his team (correct me if I'm wrong on that). Because of that, under the way we have done it before he would be picking 4th rather than 1st in the upcoming draft. That strikes me as backwards and unfair.
Not that I care about the stupid consolation playoffs, but if that's the way it's gonna work then it places an incentive on tanking games. I'd rather have people give up and not care at the end rather than expecting people to go out of their way to tank the consolation playoffs so their draft position isn't ruined.
Long story short: I think that our draft order should be determined in a way that more closely mimics real football - where teams that don't make the playoffs have their draft position determined by their regular season record. What are everybody's thoughts on that?
For your consideration:
Draft results based on consolation playoff results (the way we've always done it):
- BlufftonBuckeye (5-8)
- GomerBucks (5-8)
- Bucklion (4-9)
- jwinslow (0-13)
Draft results based on regular season record:
- jwinslow (0-13)
- Bucklion (4-9)
- GomerBucks (5-8)
- BlufftonBuckeye (5-8)
