BuckeyePlanet 2005 Fall Raffle

BuckeyePlanet 2005 Fall Raffle

Greetings Buckeye Planet members. It's an exciting time of the year. Football season is upon us and the outlook is promising for our Bucks. Couple that with a new server coming online and life couldn't get much better for us. It's a great time to be a Buckeye!

On behalf of Clarity and the entire BuckeyePlanet staff, I want to take this opportunity to thank all the folks who contributed their time, money and expertise to make the new server a reality. As Clarity implements all the new features made possible by BuckeyePlanet members, the Spring Fundraising drive seems like a distant memory. All the heartache and worry caused by the need to raise a significant sum of money for new equipment seems to fade as each new feature comes online. As one BuckeyePlanet member noted, "It seems like Christmas". Like opening one present after another as things like AJAX, bpQuiz, bpCash, DayGame, AfternoonGame, NightGame, and a host of other cool features are implemented. In fact, we've only scratched the surface of what's new at BuckeyePlanet. Most importantly is a new server that is suited to handle the volume of traffic that BuckeyePlanet has quickly grown into. Kudos to you all.

At this point, Clarity usually has a LONG paragraph detailing all the many folks who've gone above and beyond to make BuckeyePlanet a great place. I won't even try. There are just too many folks. Some known and some unknown to me. Frankly, I'm afraid to leave anyone out. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I hope Clarity can stop by at some point and add just such a paragraph to this thread. I guess I should also explain that Clarity has a million things to do with the new server and conversion of features from our old version of software to the new. For that reason, I'm sort of leading the charge here. My apologies in advance, for what will take me multiple paragraphs to convey poorly, Clarity would effortlessly communicate with one sentence and two smilies :wink2: :tongue2: . Please bear with me.

As happens every Spring and (in this case) Fall, Clarity and BuckeyePlanet run a Fundraising Drive. Well it is once again that time ... only different. I'll get to the different part in just a moment. The fundraiser has always been intended to be low key. There is absolutely NO WAY that your experience at BuckeyePlanet will change at an individual level as the result of contributing (or NOT contributing) money. All funds raised go directly toward the operation of this site ... period. There are no paid employees ... not even Clarity. Everything you send in helps to make this place better for you, for me, and for all Buckeye fans now and in the future.

Now to the 'different' part. After the past Fundraiser (Spring 05), it was Clarity's wish that we not even need to do a fundraiser this fall (finances permitting). It is hard for me to express to you how unhappy it made Clarity to push for donations this past spring. It was contrary to his goal of keeping things low key on the issue of money. So ... there is NO FUNDRAISER this fall! We pushed HARD this past Spring Fundraiser and it's time to enjoy ourselves. Enjoy the season. Enjoy the new server and new features. Enjoy being Buckeyes. While BuckeyePlanet still needs to generate some money to cover the costs of operation, it is Clarity's intention to give everyone a break from that routine. So we're going to do something more fun, very low key, hopefully raise enough money to defray Clarity's expenses, and just possibly give you something in return.

That 'something' was made possible by an interesting thing that occurred during the Spring Drive. Two members (Littledawg & Trslfan) donated autographed memorabilia to BuckeyePlanet instead of money. The thought was that we could auction or raffle the items and generate donations in that fashion. Well the timing for such an event was not really the best. Many folks had already donated in varying amounts before this concept had even been considered. There wasn't a good way to reconcile old contributions with new donations earmarked for an auction or raffle. In short it didn't make sense to proceed with a raffle or auction at that time. Well now is that time. After some consideration it was decide that a raffle (instead of an auction) would be the best option as it enables a greater number of members the chance to be involved and possibly to receive a great 'gift' in return. Another member (Bucklion) is also adding some items to the mix. More on that as those items are finalized.

One more point and then we'll get to the details. Clarity is sending a portion of these proceeds to the American Red Cross and the American Humane Society to aid the folks affected by Hurricane Katrina. There are few (if any) that haven't been moved by the events of this past week, and we all would like to do whatever we can, great or small, to aid those in need. At the moment 15% of all proceeds will be directed to the American Red Cross and 5% to the American Humane Society. Clarity keeps threatening to send all the funds to the disaster relief. Maybe if we raise enough to defay his expenses at BuckeyePlanet, he'll get his wish to send in a good deal more than 20%.

So ... let's get to the 2005 Fall Raffle!

We have a number of really nice items in the raffle. A picture of each item and a brief description is listed below. The first items will be raffled at the start of the Big Ten season with the 9/24/05 game of Ohio State versus Iowa. More items will then be raffled off during each game week through the end of the season. (Some additional items may also be added to this list. More on that as they are confirmed) I want to take this time to thank BuckeyePlanet members littledawg (www.theosustore), Trslfan and Bucklion for donating all these items for our benefit. Please thank them as well, or maybe just refrain from stealing their bpCash when the time comes  .

You can purchase a raffle ticket(s) at these prices and quantities.

$10 = 1 Ticket
$25 = 3 Tickets
$50 = 7 Tickets
$75 = 11 Tickets
$100 = 15 Tickets

Please remember that you can donate any amount to BuckeyePlanet. We will match the nearest ticket equivalent to your donation. For instance a $35 donation would yield 4 tickets (1 ticket at $10 plus 3 tickets at $25).

Tickets may be purchased either by mailing a check to:

NEW ADDRESS!!!
BuckeyePlanet
5794 Gradey Pass
Galloway, OH 43119-8598

NOTE: Please, please, please let us know your User Name at BuckeyePlanet if you send money via the mail. It is the only way we can track who has purchased a ticket. We would feel awful if someone missed an opportunity to win a raffle because we were unaware of who send in a donation.

or, by using the newly integrated PayPal system found on the BuckeyePlanet front page:

http://www.buckeyeplanet.com/forum/donate.php

The new integrated PayPal system is instant in terms of tracking contributions and reporting it to the system at BuckeyePlanet. It handles both members and unregistered visitors, people with paypal accounts and those without. It keeps a running total based on validated payments. Tracking of your User Name is seamless.

Each ticket purchased will be listed in a thread along with the Member Name.

Example:

($25) BP Member A: Ticket #0001, Ticket #0002, Ticket #0003

($10) BP Member B: Ticket #0004

($50) BP Member C: Ticket #0005, Ticket #0006, Ticket #0007, Ticket #0008, Ticket #0009, Ticket #0010, Ticket #0011

The day of each raffle, an online random number generator will be used to generate a list of numbers equal to the number of raffle tickets sold.

Example:
0008
0002
0001
0010
0005
0009
0011
0003
0006
0007
0004

If there is one item being raffled, then the first number generated is the winner (Ticket #0008 wins the item). For two items, the first two numbers are winners (Ticket #0008 wins the first item, Ticket #0002 wins the second item. Etc.)

Once an item has been won, the ticket will be changed to Red and will no longer be eligible to win. If that ticket number is generated in a winning position in future raffles, it will simply be skipped and the next number in order will be used to determine the winner.

Example:

($25) BP Member A: Ticket #0001, Ticket #0002, Ticket #0003

($10) BP Member B: Ticket #0004

($50) BP Member C: Ticket #0005, Ticket #0006, Ticket #0007, Ticket #0008, Ticket #0009, Ticket #0010, Ticket #0011

Once a member has won an item, simply Private Message me (3yardsandacloud) with the address where you would like the item shipped. I will send it along as an Insured UPS Ground Shipment. That's it!

Let's have some fun this Fall, and as always ... GO BUCKS!

95 Notre Dame DVD Raffle

Fellow BP'ers...

I recently bought a DVR and have been converting my old games from VHS to DVD.

I thought there might been some interest in the 1995 Notre Dame vs. OSU game.

So, I'm providing a free DVD gift of this game to the first 20 people who purchase $25 (or more) of raffle tickets.

The first 20 donors also receive the 3 Raffle tickets for their $25.

This has been approved by Clarity and the mods.

I'll start making copies tonight, so you should get your DVD in the next week or so.

See the sticky thread about the BP raffle for more info.

A little info about the DVD...
  • 2 disc set...disc 1 is first half and halftime...disc 2 is second half.
  • All commericals have been edited out
  • Chapter breaks at all commercial intervals
  • Menu and custom thumbnail images for chapters
  • I'm no expert at this kind of stuff, but overall I think the image and sound quality are good.
  • There is a very very minor flaw in the first quarter where it 'snow' appears (like someone changed the channel) for one second. I don't think it's a big deal, but I want full disclosure. It's pretty insignificant really.
Like most of you, OSU football is something I love and BP is place where I spend a lot of time.

I'm doing this only to try and share part of my collection with the BP community and help out BP.

This is not ebay, so these games are not going to the highest bidder...and if you're #21 on the list, I'm sorry, but I have to draw the line somewhere.

I'll only guarantee that if your copy doesn't work for some reason - I'll replace it with a new one.

This DVD was not done in a studio, this is a copy of VHS tape that my mom copied for me when I was in college and couldn't see the game (we weren't allowed to have TV's in our dorm in college).

I don't want to scare anyone off, I think it's a great DVD copy, but I just don't want anyone to be disappointed.

Thanks SA. Now there's some added incentive. Would suck to be #21 and not get that DVD. :wink2:

For those that don't know, ScarletArrow also donated a DVD of the Indiana Game that will compliment the Eddie George signed game program. I now feel the need to give him mad reputation points.

EDIT: Wow that's cool. A 'donor' icon automatically shows up in your 'postbits' information.

Looks like osugrad21 get's the first DVD. In fact, if no one else donates, he'll definently win 7 raffle items! Hell, if no one else donates, I'll let him pick the 7 items he wants! :tongue2:

Hmm i sent $25 yesterday and am not on it yet...just wanna make sure i get in that top 20 :wink2:

Did you use the mail or PayPal? Mailed donations will be entered in the PayPal system manually by LongwoodBuck, so they WILL be accounted for as far as the raffle tickets are concerned.

I guess if you use the mail we'll need to go by postmark date. Still a time of the day issue involved. If you send (via mail) on Saturday and multiple folks donate that same day via PayPal there is no way to tell which donation (mail vs PayPal) came first in the timeline. This won't matter for you golfer. If your donation is postmarked yesterday, it will be obvious that you are the first donor. Might be an issue for others that send via mail. I guess everyone who wants to ENSURE that they are one of the first 20 should use the PayPal System ... otherwise, no guarantees. We'll do our best and go from there.

I used PayPal...21 and I have been PMing so hopefully no problems. The deal is that the game in '95 was the same day as my mother's 40th bday. We were at the game and even had an airplane flying overhead in her honor. Her bday is this 30th and it would be a dream come true for her to receive that same game on DVD for her 50th. Normally I wouldn't care because I don't donate in order to receive back, but there is something really special to her and my family about that game. Thanks 3yards :)

Check your PM Golfer. We'll get it figured out. Sometimes it takes a day or two of back and forth with PayPal before we have an answer, but there is always an electrionic paper trail to follow. I wouldn't worry. I was under the impression that the PayPal system now linked to BP was almost instantaneous with the exception of some occasional issue with verification. Also, each fundraiser has one or two PayPay donations that get really odd/messed up and require a few days for LongwoodBuck to sort out with the folks at PayPal. Each one of those has been figured out in the end ... I don't doubt that will be the case in this inatance as well.

NOTE: Everyone on this list needs to send ScarletArrow a PM with the address they want the DVD to be sent to. No address, no DVD. :)
