Buckeye leaf stickers on helmets

Many people here in Florida who are Gator Fans have questioned me about the Buckeye leafs as stickers on the helmets of our buckeyes. They ask me what they stand for and why so many. That was a question that i really could not answer correctly so i thought i could get some help from avid fans up in Columbus or around Ohio. Does anybody have good answers that i can pass on. Thanks.
