Buckeye in Columbia, SC

kinch

Wash me
Okay, so it looks like I might have to go to Columbia, SC for three weeks or so beginning the week after labor day. I should/might be able to fly home (or to cmh) for weekends, but a few questions for anyone familiar with the area:

1. Where to go out
2. Where to go out to see the Buckeyes' games
3. Any other info

Any help would be great.

USC campus butts right up against downtown Columbia. I know there is a pretty cool area just on the edge of campus near downtown. I cannot recall what the name of it is. There are several bars/restaurants some coffee shops, and some eclectic type stores. It is a pretty cool place to go out in the evening. There is not a lot of nightlife in the downtown area except on the campus side to town.

I cannot help you with the buckeye games, If you end up staying down there over the weekends, I would suggest making a road trip over to Charleston, or even Savannah. You could probably get to Charleston in an hour and a half or so, and if you have never been there it is definitely worth a trip.

I don't know if you play golf, but there are a few really nice courses in the area as well.

1. If you are 30 and under, go to 5 Points and the little area with Banana Joe's

2. College Gameplan...most bars will be dominated by SEC fans. Unless you want to drive to Myrtle Beach...there are a few tOSU bars down there. COastal and I might even join ya :)

3. I am about 90 minutes from you...and don't eat Maurice's BBQ.

Always wondered about that place as I drive from Charlotte to Charleston. Thanks for the lo-down. A good dinner place in Charleston is California Dreaming and I know they have a restaurant in Columbia. Might be worth checking out..although it can be a little pricey.

I wish I knew you were coming I could have asked Spurrier for his tips on Columbia as he was watching my son's team scrimmage last Saturday in Charleston.

If it is only 90 minutes to a decent tOSU bar it is well worth the drive-- I'd probably go for that (not to mention Myrtle Beach could make it a bit like a vacation . .)

Oh, and I'm 30 - kinda on the line. . .)

I told work that I have only one requirement in my contract-- I absolutley must have Saturdays off in football season. :)

I spent some time there a few years ago. You know you're in a thriving state capital when the morning traffic reports include which roads are currently stopped because trains are passing through. :tongue2:
