Buckeye Baseball on the Up and Up?

in 2012 Ohio St almost locked up 4 in state top 12 talents in Xavier Turner, Lindor Tucker (who chose to stay home at Kent just over Ohio St) but landed Zach Ratcliff and Jacob Bosiokovic. now Ohio isnt a baseball powerhouse, but its not a doghouse either as the state produces alot of good talent, i would probably put them in the top 10-15 in terms of baseball talent) i work as a scout for the Cleveland Indians (most of the time is spent with the Scrappers) so heres my evaluations of some of the guys we will get

thats a good start to almost 1/4th of the top 12 in state players, but Beals will need to hold onto those verbals in the future.

#14 Ratcliff is likley to end up as a College guy but he can be a scary good college hitter, at 6'5 220 he has a huge frame to get bigger and stronger, he has a very fast powerful swing that can produce some bombs in his college career

#10 Bosiokovic is a big 6'6 215 guy who should be a college guy, he's probably going to end up on the mound. he's got good control of all 3 of his pitches and has hit as high as 90 MPH with alot of frame to put on some weight/muscle and get stronger as a pitcher

as for the 2013 class the Buckeyes are off to a good start landing the #14th player in the state Kyle Michalik a smaller RHP at 6'0 175 another guy who is likley to end up in college, more of a control pitcher then power guy could be a lockdown bullpen/3rd starter in time.

they also lead for Griffin Weir a 6'4 190 RHP who is more of a power guy, hits low 90s with a nice 11-5 curve that hits high 70s. Weir is 7th in the state

they also have a good shot at #6 C/OF Cassidy Brown, Brown at 6'3 190 is a guy that could be a corner OF who hits for average with a strong arm from the outfield and decent speed. he plays 1B and C in HS but could just as well play RF at college

the 2014 Class for the Buckeyes is turning out to be a Ohio Dream team of sorts

first you have the #1 guy Jacob Niggemeyer who has more potential then Matt Smoral or Taylore Cherry IMO, Niggemeyer is alot like Justin Masterson, a bulldog who can eat innings, goes after batters, and loves to get Ks and Groundballs, he should probably drop his slider as its hard for HS kids to balance 4 pitches, but he has hit low 90s on his sinker fast ball and has a nasty 11-5 Curve that hits mid 70s

then you have #3 in the state Zach Shannon whos built like a truck i like his potential more as a pitcher , but he's another kid i wouldnt mind seeing in the corner OF spot because of his hitting abillity and strong arm. Shannons been timed as high as 98 last year, like Niggemeyer im not sure he see's college as he has more potential then Smoral and Cherry and they are both looking to go before the 2nd round starts but if you get both guys on campus for 3 years, get some offense and you'll be in the CWS at least once

Ohio St also leads for #2 Caleb Potter, who is a 5 tool OF can do it all, would be a good CF, reminds be alot of Grady Sizemore minues the injuries and a bit stronger arm

theres also Jordan McDonough who is a good catcher, a little small for my liking, but is a great defensive catcher who could hit for a good average.

look for Ohio St to lock up the top 5+McDonough when its all said and done, lots of high upside pitchers and college guys who will hit for high averages

Shannons teammate Riley Mahan is a very good quick SS, who like McDonough plays good D and will hit for a good average. Ohio St is also in good shape with my 5th in the top 5 Cody Calloway, a projected LF who has good speed, makes good contact, has a above average arm and D

the 2014 class for Ohio is stacked and i probably have it in my top 5 out of all states so far

depending on the coaching staff, if Ohio St lands the talent i see them landing, the Buckeyes might hang a NC banner before the 2014 kids are finished with school

Good stuff, hope you stick around and share your insights. Mostly because I'm too lazy to look, I'd love to know the high schools of the guys you mentioned. I know Smoral is at Solon, Linder at Tallmadge, Brown at Walsh. How about some of the other 2014 guys?
