Buckeye Baseball 2017 recap

  • By just about every measurable criteria, the Ohio State baseball team had a miserable 2017 season.

    - They finished 22-34 overall, 11th in the B1G
    - They finished with the 2nd worst home record in the B1G (9-17)
    - They finished with the 2nd worst road record in the B1G (8-12)

The lack of overall talent is quite apparent. Yes they lost some good players from last year's tournament champions, but the lack of pitching is appalling. The level of recruiting is sadly deficient for a program with the resources of Ohio State. Something needs to happen, either the coach needs to be called on the carpet with some demands placed on him or he and his staff need to find other employment.

Highlights of the season - Not too many. I guess I would have to pick the 6-1 victory over nationally ranked Oregon State as the high point. Beating eventual conference champ Nebraska 9-7 was good too. And, reaching here, finishing with a winning record against the MAC

Low points: many. Swept by Xavier, crushed by Ball State 14-4, crushed by Utah 12-0, finishing 11th in the B1G, missing the B1G tournament, losing to Eastern Michigan at home, only winning 1 B1G series (over last place Penn State).
