Bucket Lists? You got one?

WolverineMike

Head Coach
I can honestly say that after living abroad, I feel like i've seen and done more than a lot of people could ever dream.

seen most major attractions in England
seen most major attractions in Paris
seen most major attractions in Venice
seen most major attractions in Barcelona
seen most major attractions in Cairo

been to the Grand Canyon, LA, Vegas, Hoover Dam, NY and Boston.

I suppose at some point I would like to see Mt Rushmore, but i'm not holding out hope on that one.

i'd also like to take an Alaskan cruise and go on an Australian or African safari.

What say you?

that would be awesome.

CMOB and I had a brief PM discussion about said trip. Having visited many of the places on their tour I'd have to recommend that kind of trip to anyone who has an interest in WWII history. It's really amazing...

Here's a snip of my reply:

Depending on where you go you could probably drive most of it... or get on the trains. The trains a great.

If I had to plan a trip, I'd actually follow the BoB across the continent. It would be a great tour and you'd get to see a ton of stuff. Here's what I'd do... not necessarily in order of BoB tour of the continent but pretty close:

1) Start in Normandy
2) Bastogne for the BotB museum and the battle fields.
3) Personally, I'd skip the Netherlands. I really don't have any ties to it or Operation Market Garden.
4) If skipping the Netherlands, drive from Bastogne to Lux city to see Patton's grave and the US military cemetary. Most people don't know that Patton 'lives' in Lux. Frankly the entire country still loves the man more than most Americans as he clearly was the one who liberated them.
5) Jump on a train and head to Dachau
6) Head down to Berchtesgaden to the Eagles Nest.

I can't say how much it would cost, but I'd estiamte that it would take a solid two weeks if you're really moving through it. It'd be one heck of a trip!

/snip

As I mention, I don't have any personal ties to the Netherlands and would include Luxembourg in its stead. Pitching for my motherland now, I'll also add these two side trips:

1) Vianden Castle: http://www.castle-vianden.lu/english/index.html
You'll see two pictures of the castle at various states of rebuild... the first in 1974 is very close to what the castle looked like the first time I saw it. Now it's just amazing

2) The Bock Casemates: http://www.markstravelnotes.com/europe/luxembourg/luxembourg_city/places_of_interest/the_casemates/
Just very interesting history dating way way back.

So, I'll admit that I'm totally biased as Luxembourg is where my mom grew up... but I can't think of many places on this planet that are more interesting in such a small space. Good stuff.
