Bryce "L" Underwood (QB ttun, for now)

In 2013, Nebraska had some nerd named Burkhead or Burkhart or something on their team. Running back or Fullback or something. They used to put him in for a wildcat guy, but he'd get right up under center. Then he'd hand it off and turn around and dive up the middle as the lead blocker. It looked really awkward. Like, the running back had to wait to get the ball then he'd have to wait for Burkhead to get out of his way before he could also drive up the middle.

Using your quarterback as a lead blocker doesn't seem to be too great of an idea.

For the life of me - I don't understand why the young man is struggling as much as he is.

Is it:

1). Wildly overhyped coming out of HS. Another classic 5 star miss, like Dylan Riaola.

2). Thrown into the fire entirely too soon. The speed of CFB, the checkdowns and plays and pressure....he needed to sit for a year and learn and develop.

3). The coaches hired to develop him have no idea how to handle something like Underwood. Also note the following:

One visit to OSU (unofficial)
One visit to Bama (unofficial)
One visit to USC (unofficial)
No visits to Georgia
No visit to ND
No visit to Oregon
No visit to Texas

The best programs with the best coaches saw what they saw and didn't engage (or only minimally engaged).

All of the above.

A physical tool shed to use the baseball phrase. Zero QB skill (footwork, reading defenses) because he played low level HS football.

Now add in fucked up coaching for sure in year 1 and I am deducing a healthy dose of his own arrogance and stupidity and you have another 9, but he's fucked because Conner Stallions is gone and he can't just hand it off 30 times a game.

He needs to transfer to a place that can teach him how to play QB but I doubt his ego and the NIL deals will allow for that.

5.) He reads coverages like Helen Keller.

6.) His coaching staff has less organizational skills than a group of monkeys throwing shit at tourists.

Come on people, keep the chain going.
7) The only game film he watches is Remember the Titans.

8) To call an audible he’d have to deliver an almost complete sentence.

4. He's a jackass with the brain of a squirrel.

Just sayin': That's an outright blatant lie; as well as being offensive to squirrels.

This Week in Our Dumb, Beautiful Sport: Bryce Underwood's Expensive Lesson and Alabama's Arrival

164351_h.JPG

College football has reached October.

Apparently nobody bothered to tell the sport that we're supposed to have a better idea of who's good by now.
Northwestern celebrated the opening of its nearly $900 million stadium by running Penn State out of the building. Minnesota beat Michigan.
Missouri took a Florida team that had just dismantled Ole Miss and returned the favor. And Alabama, led by a quarterback I was admittedly hesitant to fully buy into a couple of weeks ago, is starting to look terrifying.
Meanwhile, Rutgers managed to have too many players on the field on consecutive plays, and Colorado needed a timeout to address having too few.

It was just another week in our dumb, beautiful sport.

Bryce Underwood might change college football's financial landscape, just not how we expected

Let's play a game.
Think of the 10 best players in college football. Now think of the 10 highest-paid players in college football.

There's probably a decent amount of overlap. Jeremiah Smith, Dante Moore, Trinidad Chambliss, Darian Mensah and Drew Mestemaker are all names that wouldn't surprise me on either list.

Now, let's expand the exercise to the 40 or 50 best quarterbacks among the 68 Power Four programs.
I'm genuinely not sure Michigan signal-caller Bryce Underwood makes that list.

That's a pretty remarkable statement to make about a player who entered college as the undisputed No. 1 overall recruit in his class, particularly when you consider the reported eight-figure NIL commitment associated with bringing him to Ann Arbor.

Underwood was supposed to change the college football landscape. And I actually think he might.
Just not in the way anyone expected.

Michigan's 20-14 loss to Minnesota was another miserable afternoon for the sophomore, who completed 10 of 21 passes for 101 yards and two interceptions. The Wolverines managed just 180 total yards against a Minnesota team that, while respectable, isn't exactly the '85 Chicago Bears.
And this isn't simply a case of Underwood having one bad Saturday. His struggles have become a recurring theme, and Michigan is fortunate its record isn't worse.

But what exactly is Kyle Whittingham supposed to do?

Re: Five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood officially flipped his commitment from LSU to the Michigan Wolverines on November 21, 2024, before enrolling in January 2025.

Just sayin': So are you saying that LSU isn't one the best programs and didn't have one of the best coaches?

We should declare November 21 to be the annual holiday of "Bryce Underwood Day". Kid's starting to approach Bill Martin status in terms of needing some permanent reminder of his incompetence.
