Our church has no bells.
At the risk of provoking all manner of sarcasm, most of it deserved, does anyone know, other than by actually going to a doctor (which I am way too busy to do this week), how to tell if one's nose is broken? If it isn't obviously broken, does that mean it isn't?

Wised off to Mrs. Rugby one to many times this weekend. :)

Can you breath out of it? I shattered my nose in a 3-wheeler accident when I was a kid so they knew it was broken. I had to have it fixed, but one nasal passage is still bigger than the other.
My advice is if it looks ok and you can breath out of both sides don't worry about it. Getting if fixed is a bitch if it's that bad.

I'm sure it is swollen right now but press down and feel along the bridge...feel for any obvious mis-shape.

Black eyes are usually there too but not always....

That's my extremely crude coach methods...probably better to listen to someone else:roll2:

This is usally a good sign. When I broke my nose I had black rings under my eyes for about 5 days.

If you think it is broke, I'd go to a doctor and have it x-rayed.

Usually they just heal on their own.

In my late teens I did a stupid dive off a high dive board and forced water into my tear duct.
My entire eye got infected and started to swell shut.
I went to the doctor and had a xray and they came back and said my nose was broken but it been broken for a long time. I just assumed it was from football. The doctor said not much could be done about it.

When my daughter was two years old she liked to do the backward fall on our bed and once did it while my wife was in the process of sitting up. My daughters head hit my wife's nose and I heard it pop in the other room. The result was instant blood flow. Needless to say it was broken. Again a doctor said there was not much that could be done, save plastic surgery.

If you are ugly it adds character, if not it still adds character but you may want to seea plastic surgeon.:)

 I couldn't tell because of all the blood. Thanks for the tips. I think I'm going to let it go, for the moment. If it isn't broken after last Saturday's match, it probably will after this Saturday's. :)

Oh, you can pretty much guess, I imagine. Apparently, one shouldn't play flyhalf like one is still a center. :)
how many time do I have to tell you? when playing flyhalf, it's receive, pass, and loop...not receive, dive/crash, break nose!

No concussion?
You aren't wimping out are you?

I can see someone's medical premiums going up.
Yeah, somehow I avoided a concussion and my shoulder stinger didn't come back (that was the only thing I had in common with MoC, whew). I got the blood sorted and went back into the match, but it didn't matter, we still got our ass kicked.

Sorry to hear about your little one. I heard one of those "pops" a couple of weeks ago when my 2 year old and 7 year old were wrestling. The little one's chin caught the big one right in the eye. I was all set to spend the rest of the night in the ER, but there wasn't any real damage. One hell of a sickening sound, though.

Our trainers for the baseball team used to actually carry tampons in the kit for bloody noses and broken noses.

Luckily I didn't have to do that when I broke my nose at our game.
