Bringing the whole crew up for Akron

Mrs Jax, my 9 year old daughter and 2 year old son for the game and meeting Rex Kern after the game for some auto's and such. Wife and I have been there but its the first time to Cbus and to see the Bucks for my kids.

For all of you with alot more intricate knowledge of campus and life there, give me some ideas on some really cool stuff for the kids to see on Friday and or after the game Saturday and or Sunday morning. I want my daughter to see the school and start to get tOSU bug, they'd both love a tour of the WHAC if they are conducting them. Just really looking for something cool for the kids not the best place to get tore up or get laid(I'll sneak back up alone later in the year for that :wink2: )

Any ideas or just pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

As far as Ohio State functions are related (and it might seem obvious to some, or a little strange to others), but I'd be sure the whole Family made it to Skull Session Saturday.

I have an 8 year old boy and 2 year old girl...my son loves the players and intensity of the pep rally, and my daughter loves the bands playing her favorite OSU songs...and both love Brutus  :osu:

Outside of Gameday, if you've never been to COSI ( COSI Columbus | Hands-on Science Center ) then I'll bet your family would love that on a Friday or Sunday (if they're open). It's been a while since I've been there, but I'll bet it would be awesome for the kids.

EDIT:

Crap! COSI looks like it's closed for 3 weeks in Sept. (part of which is the weekend you and the Fam is in town) for some reason.

And Ohio Stadium has guided tours year round (for a cost of $40 for a group up to 10 people) Mon. thru Fri., but children under 6th grade age are not permited.

No other Athletic Facilities permit tours. Sorry. :(

Take a day to experience scarlet and gray - The Official Athletics Site of The Ohio State Buckeyes - OhioStateBuckeyes.com

The Buckeye HOF Cafe might be a good place to go, for an early dinner on Friday, it doesn't get too rowdy IMO, lots of folks go with their families.
Sunday morning breakfast should be had at Jack & Benny's on High Street, it's the classic campus area diner...
I'd take the kids on a campus walk before the game, they'll probably love the ducks at Mirror Lake...unfortunately with the library under construction, the Oval doesn't look so grand, but it's still nice

Get to Jack & Benny's real early. At the very least, before the hung-over college crowd stumbles in. Like 8:00 - 10:00 AM. Any later then that and you're waiting in a line out the door and around the block cause the place fits like 20 people in there.

Well, if you ask me coming "Up" from Akron to Cbus is taking you WAY out of the way. If you come down from Akron, you're looking at a couple hour ride (Personally, I'd go 77 to 30W to 71S to 270W to 315S) But, if you want to make your way thru Canada, the Artic, Russia, Afghanistan or some shit.. the Indian Ocean, Antartica, a host of South American and Central American countries, as well as a number of States starting in Texas, feel free.

If you want her to see the Campus, wander around the Oval - you can park off of High Street, south of Lane and get there easy.

"for Akron" ...as in the 2nd game of the season, as opposed to "from Akron", which I see your point, would be a hell of a trip traveling North to C-bus.

Yeah I'm not planning any transcontinental trips just to see them pound Akron(although you know damn good and well if it were the only way to see our Bucks many of us would).

Thanks for the heads up on the stadium tours not taking kids, not sure why in the ___ that rule is in place. :grr:

I'm thinking a day of walking campus and shopping for OSU gear on Friday with meals at HOF cafe and EG's place should be good for everyone.

Saturday is Skull Session, Game, dinner, Rex Kern...so thats a good day.

Sunday we'll have to see, we fly out at 1 so its not that big a deal.

Thanks to everyone who responded and if anyone else has an idea feel free to share.

Breakfast with Brutus

The HOF cafe is supposed to be having "Brunch with Brutus" on 9/9.

There was a big sign in the "lobby" so you might be able to call ahead (now) and get reservations/tickets.

The phone number is: 614.291.CAFE (2233)

I think it was a breakfast buffet with an opportunity to mingle with Brutus - the kids should like it and the adults will secretly like it, too!

I wanted to go to one of them with our kids but Mrs. Ratboy says that it is too far to drive for breakfast (from Chicago)

Yeah the Skull Session would be great thing for your daughter to see but it will be tough for the the "Little One" that is two. She would get a charge out of seeing "Brutus Buckeye" he usually is around when the OSUMB comes charging out of the St.Johns arena. But if you and your wife want to see something special and really good food and drink, ya just have to make a trip down to "Germantown". That is really a great place. Mirror lake is a nice walk around also.

Sunday morning brunch @ Holiday Inn on Lane is around $14 but very good! Omelets, hash browns, french toast, pancakes, sausage, bacon, cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, biscuits and gravy. ( I think ) drinks are included ,If you don't want to spend the $14 you can also order from the menu. We stay at the Holiday Inn for game weekends, so it is both good and convenient.
