Brief 15-30m outage this morning/afternoon (7/9/12)

Site appeared to be down from 15 minutes or so about a half hour ago (from ~1130-1145 EST), and access is still sporadic...

Did you do a tracert or something else to see if maybe there was something down between you and our box in CA? I didn't see similar outages and the server seems to be saying all is well, but I'll poke around a bit more.

I was experiencing a similar issue. The site would timeout on me. No issues anywhere else. Going on from maybe 11:15-11:45.

Nope, didn't do any tracert or ping. It was right before I was leaving for work this morning, and by the time I got to work everything seemed fine.

My guess is that it was something just before our box in the network, just not letting traffic get through properly.

That is just a guess though. Just can't find anything else that might explain it, particularly since it seems to not be an issue now.

Thanks for the heads up, please do let me know if it happens again.

Brief 15-30m outage this morning/afternoong (7/9/12)

Just creating this thread (moving the posts over) for the purpose of tracking a 15-30 minute window earlier today where some (all?) had difficulty reaching the site.

May be nothing to talk about at this point, this is more for organizational/historical purposes than anything else.

Thanks, all. Sorry for any inconvenience.

--edit--
Unbroken box uptime, no errors in the logs, traffic definitely dropped (but not 100%) during that window. Clearly there was an issue, but as above it appears to have been external to us, perhaps at the switch or within HE's network.

Great. Thanks, all.

Solar flares indeed. That and/or I forgot to feed the mice. Or maybe it was my comment about USC equaling cancer -- but our box is in Fremont which is more Oakland/SF than it is LA.

Either way, we should be good now. I've passed along a note to our brilliant server guy just so he's aware.

My outages a few hours ago were sporadic. Sometimes I couldn't load any tabs, sometimes one would sit (even if refreshed), while others would load normally.

Definitely sounds like there was a bad link somewhere, possibly right before our box.

Thanks (and happy birthday).

Briefly I wondered if it was somehow related to the government turning off the DNS virus (DNSChanger) 'fix' servers -- but that wouldn't make much sense at all since it seems the timeouts hit everyone trying to connect at that time and then it came back. So that's more than just a little unlikely.
