I doubt Fick is even on the conversation. Now Kelly to UCLA or Wiscy. That’s a definite possibility

Kelly spent his time at Cincinnati pissing and moaning about Ohio State to the media. He was smart enough to butter up to the HS coaches in the Cincinnati area and then convinced local kids who would have ridden the pine for 2 or 3 years at a level 1 school to stay home and start. He got butts into the stands at Nippert by creating local heroes. And then, at the pinnacle of his sucess, he said one thing on Friday and, "Kiss my ass, enjoy YOUR bowl game, my ass is headed to South Bend," on Monday. Self-centered, ego-driven, asshole pretty much sums it up.
counterpoint:I'm going to touch on this on our podcast this week.
Why were Saban, Miles, and O (as well as 3 Baseball coaches) all able to reach the mountaintop at LSU but Kelly wasn't?
those 3 all got to LSU at a point in their careers where they all still had something to prove. They all knew LSU could provide all of the pieces to be able to prove it, but they also knew that THEY had to prove it. And all of them did whatever it took to get there. They approached the job with the same passion the fans have for the team. They chased Championships. And all 3 got one.
Kelly came here with just one piece missing from his resume. Probably was getting into the Hall of Fame even with that piece missing.
Kelly approached the job as if LSU being LSU would be enough on its own to bring a title to him. He didn't chase it. He expected it to fall in his lap. It was like he truly believed it was ND's fault he didn't already have one and that LSU would just give him one if he just graced us with his presence.
And honestly, the team even looked like they too thought they just had to "show up" to win.
and as we all know, College Football doesn't work that way.
you have to go out and take it.
yeah LSU has every conceivable tool you'll ever need to win titles. But if you don't use every single one of them, you ain't gonna win one, because somebody else out there is using all of his.
Say what you will about the current state of CFB and NIL..I'm going to touch on this on our podcast this week.

They need to hit a HR with the next coach because NIL had evened the national playing field and coaching matters even more now than just stacking players.
I feel like Woody is going to try to go after Dan Lanning.
No offense intended but, perhaps one reason may be because those coaches arrived at a time when the SEC set the standard for back-handed payments to players. Looking at this from the DEEP South with a Yankee perspective, the possibility that NIL levelled the playing field was implied by Saban's recent interview saying that kids were looking at SEC schools differently in the NIL era.I'm going to touch on this on our podcast this week.

if you listen to Saban speak on the subject, it's the entire system that changed and why he got out.Looking at this from the DEEP South with a Yankee perspective, the possibility that NIL levelled the playing field was implied by Saban's recent interview saying that kids were looking at SEC schools differently in the NIL era.
