Brian "Body Kount" Kelly (HC Louisiana State)

Way to treat your players

this is truly a heartbreaking story for that kid.

but the interview and articles have been extremely one sided.

all of his symptoms are also symptoms of issues much more common than brain tumors in general, let alone one that has been called "extremely rare" in most articles about him.
a college aged athlete in peak physical condition will not be checked for brain tumors until all of the usual suspects (concussion, vertigo, eye problems, etc.) have been eliminated. 39 days from onset of dizziness to having Brain Surgery is very, very fast. The typical person isn't flying through the process at anywhere near that speed.

Being told if you don't practice, we can't promise you a starting spot is also pretty standard policy for all team sports at all levels.

and communication was cut off once lawyers got involved. From that point on, any and all communication must go through the attorney.

Prior to the attorneys, LSU (and Kelly) were very involved in doing everything they could to help the kid.
sending him to best doctors available. doing fundraisers for the family. a huge outpouring of support from the school, the team, and the fanbase.

the misdiagnosis for him suck. it really really does.
but it's understandable how it happened.

you just don't immediately see a 20 year old football player with headaches and immediately look for a tumor.

now, anything that was done wrong with the surgery itself falls on the Hospital and the Doctor.

Appreciate it, I was hoping to hear from the other side of this. Because I know Kelly can be a douche, but he doesn't strike me as being so bad as to leave a kid out high and dry. I wondered if legal got involved

There's 2 sides to every story, and the media enjoys standing in one spot and yelling at the other spot. I don't want to turn this political - it doesn't have to be - but there was a story where some reporters were crying about Trump not putting his hand on the bible to get sworn in. They have pictures of him standing there with the bible in front of him but he doesn't have his hand on the bible. But if you watch the video, the bibles weren't there when the swearing-in starts, and the lead dude never says, "put your hand on the bible."
Anyway, I don't want this to become a pro- or anti-Trump debate - just an example of how they are able to make one guy look like a goober for not doing what we all know was what he was supposed to do.
Back to this. I'm no fan of BK. But maybe he did call the kid, and the parents don't know. Or he was told by the sister that "now isn't a good time", or he visited him in the hospital, or someone came to him and said, "Yo, Coach, don't call him until X, Y, or Z."
Or... I'm willing to say that maybe BK just hasn't called him. Maybe he is a scumbag. I don't know.

Let's just say, over the last 10yrs or so, it has become increasingly easy to doubt the media and what is shown to the public. Like you, I'm not trying to make this political, and I'll just leave it at that. Because none of us know what went on, and that's why I went and edited my initial post

oh Kelly has an abrasive personality and might be a complete scumbag (I don't know him personally, so can't really say).

but early on there was a lot of public support for Brooks with LSU being heavily involved in drumming it up for him.
lots of social media posts, emails asking for help for the family, proceeds from different events going directly to a fund for him, painted his number on the field, wore helmet stickers for him, etc.
Brooks was a very well respected and loved member of the team. Was named permanent team captain by his teammates and coaches prior to that season.

that all came to an abrupt halt right around the time they lawyered up.

I'm not a lawyer and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express recently. But I do know that once lawyers are involved, the 2 parties typical cut off communications with each other completely and any takes now pass from Lawyer to Lawyer. Takes the humanity clean out of a situation where humanity is sorely needed.

It's pretty disingenuous to send a kid up in scissor lift during a wind storm and act like you had no idea something bad could happen too.

I don't know. For some odd reason it's just hard for me to give Kelly the benefit of the doubt on the third or fourth go around with a kids family having to lawyer up.

Walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, there's a good chance it's a sociopathic grifter.

Oh, he’s a shit-bag on multiple levels. No doubt about that in my mind.
