Brian "Body Kount" Kelly (HC Louisiana State)

“I want to be in an environment where I have the resources to win a national championship,” Kelly said in 2022. “And I came down here because I want to be in the American League East … I felt like I did everything that I could at Notre Dame and they felt like they did everything they could for me. …I loved my time at Notre Dame. We were on different paths and that’s fine. I’m fine with that.”
But I thought BK would have better resources to win at LSU than at ND... :roll2:

Everyone's saying the same thing about Brian Kelly after Notre Dame beat Georgia

Marcus Freeman's stock continues to soar.

Notre Dame is two wins away from a national championship under Marcus Freeman, the chosen replacement for the Fighting Irish in 2022 after Brian Kelly left South Bend for LSU. After Notre Dame's dominant win over Georgia in Thursday's Sugar Bowl, everyone was saying the same thing about Kelly — they're appreciate he left.

Kelly, who won big at Notre Dame and made a national title appearance, was asked during his final season with the Fighting Irish if he could ever see himself leaving the program for another job. Kelly definitively said no at the time, unless a "fairy godmother" dropped a "$250 million" contract in his lap. It happened and Kelly walked back that comment after landing in Baton Rouge.

Leaving Notre Dame came under the belief LSU's recruiting prowess and wealth of resources would lead to playoff appearances, but that hasn't happened yet. Following the Tigers' regular season-ending win over Oklahoma, Kelly said an appearance at the national title game was coming in 2025.

Here's some of the reaction involving Kelly after Freeman and Notre Dame waltzed into next week's playoff semifinals:

Marcus Freemn took over a Notre Dame team ranked #5 in the country.
and elevated it all the way to a team ranked #5 in the country.

under last year's playoff system, they would have been the first team out.
exactly like in Kelly's last season.

and it only took him 3 years to make that ascension.
But he had 11 players on every play (AFAIK).

i don’t know if Kelly is the answer at LSU.
but i find the Freeman comps hilarious.

Kelly took over a dumpster fire at the bottom of a shithole.
No, we ain’t where we want to be, but holy shit it’s a lot better than we were.

Freeman took over a top 5 program.
and has them in the top 5.

yeah they beat Georgia, but this is probably the worst UGA team in at least 5-6 years.
he also lost to Northern Illinois this year.

so 3 years later, LSU is significantly better than they were 3 years ago.
ND is exactly where they were 3 years ago.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the love affair between ND and the media.
oh i’m well aware.

also, i know im in a company that doesn’t want to hear this, but my whole life growing up i had to hear the media crow about midwest teams.

it wasn’t until a certain game y’all don’t want brought up before that narrative shifted.

yeah i hate the whole SEC thing now, but seriously its nice to be on the side that gets the love for a change.

I think the narrative started shifting 1 year before that game, with Urban knocking off tOSU. 2006 was also the year that Delany told espn to take a hike, so they had financial incentive from that point on to force-feed that shift.

that’s actually the game/year i’m talking about.

prior to that, the SEC didn’t get the love it does now.

Florida wasn’t given a puncher’s chance in that game.
the winner of tOSU vs those dickheads up north were the best team ever!!!! and no way so southern bastards would beat them.

that was my whole life growing up.

now that it’s shifted, i still hate it but at least it’s teams i see ever year now.

I thought you were being tactful about the next year’s final game, which you enjoyed even more. Either way, it was a game I attended and wasn’t thrilled with.

Really I think the shift started in 2003. ESPN was literally at war with Tressel (there was a subforum that detailed it here for a long time) and Douchestreit increasingly became persona non grata in town. Since Ohio State was again the standard bearer of the Big Ten, not to mention the reigning national title holder in defeating ESPN's fair-haired child in Cryami at the time, they were the target of opportunity.

Yeah, the baiting picture of MoC tossing his jersey on the cover of espn the rag was in Nov. 2004, and our sub-forum was called ESPN’s 2004-05 war with Jim Tressel. It’s still here.

So the anti-tOSU stuff was there, but I don’t think the SEC slurping really started until Delany announced the BTN.
