Ok I did a little breakdown of Tresselball. As most of you might know I like the way we play, just wish we would be on the winning side of the scoreboard. I didnt want to start a new thread, but the only thread I found when I searched Tresselball was started by Tibor.
I first want to define Tresselball.
Tresselball is a shorten the game, play field position, play great defense, run the ball, take any points when you can get them, no mistakes, and capitilize on other teams mistakes.
So lets look at the key points of Tresselball.
Field Position - we are very good at, with a good punter, can't wait to see Trapasso improve and be here for 3 more years.
Play Great defense - well this is obvious.
Run the ball - we are getting better, but I would like to see the production we had against Iowa.
No Mistakes - Games we lost the mistakes were there, along with a couple in the Iowa game, where we could of won huge.
Take Points when we get them - we are struggling to put the ball in the zone, which is a problem, but we are making the field goals, Huston has been very good this year.
Capitalize on other teams mistakes - Well against Texas we scored some points, but not enough, we could of used just another fg.
And most of all shorten Game - this is my main point in making this whole thread. I know we are always in the bottom half of the statistical offense categories and top for defensive categories, but there are reasons. Our games are a lot shorter than other games. Also the point has been brought up that NW scored 29 pts. against PSU and we scored 10. That will also be brought up here.
I went back and looked at 6 games.
1. Us vs. PSU
2. PSU vs. NW
3. USC vs. AZ
4. Cal vs. UCLA
5. Wisky vs. NW
6. Us vs. Iowa
Let me start with total number of plays. Keep in mind these are not exact numbers, b/c I looked at the drive summaries from Espn, and the numbers could be off give or take a few.
1. 121
2. 177 (125 threw 3 quarters)
3. 172
4. 162
5. 166
6. 139
Those games all have any where from 30-50 more plays a game than what we have. If you figure that we get half of them and move the ball about 5 yards per play, that gives us anywhere from 75-125 more yds. and them about 30-40 b/c our d is so good.
Also take into account the number of incompletions in each game(when the time stops) I would do out of bounds too, but that would take forever.
1. 23
2. 37
3. 24
4. 33
5. 18
6. ? (forgot to look)
So if you look at that, most of these games have more stopages from incomplete passes.
So for those asking how the hell does NW score 29 and we only score 10 well lets look.
There was 56 more total plays in that game. That would of given us more of a chance to score. There was also 14 more stoppages of play b/c of incomplete passes, and PSU had 4 TO's in that game and they had 0 against us, Also as we should all know it is easier to score at home than away, especially in front of 108,000 crazies. We always say that Shoe' helps us well Happy Valley helped them.
So overall is Tresselball bad, some will say yes some will say no, but I will just say this, we hardly lose when we get a lead of 10 or more or even 7(I know there are exceptions) and we are never out of a game(Iowa). I for one like the style of play and hope it continues.
Just one last thing, if we capitilize when we threw over the top 3 times to open guys(overthrows), Don't make mistakes(INT, Fumble), score when we have the chance(Fg against Texas and PSU), we are sitting here beating a different drum.
The final point I want to make is that we got out Tresselballed by PSU and I bet if you look on their boards they arent complaing about their style of play.
Thoughts????(man My hand hurts :))

). CFB's analysis still leaves room to question the effectiveness of our current offensive scheme/playcalling/execution. But people complaining about the nature of Tresselball are off, IMHO.
