Nothing that strikes fear in the heart of enemies, but M. Stoops would do well enough there imo (right the ship). I don't like how well he recruits the home state from a hillbilly basketball school. Not keen on seeing how that plays off when he has top level infrastructure and brand name. His style fits right in with how football is played in the Midwest... no gimmick crap like RichRod.
And just as a bonus, I could see him easily luring Harris back up there.
So I'm looking forward to them hiring Butch Jones, who only leaves Tenn knowing he's not going to make it there just beating OBC in OT - while Knoxville packs his bags for him w/o worrying about buying out his contract.

The best possible outcomes could be
- Lane Kiffin and Nussmeier teaming up as the Alabama Renegades with a new-age post-modern offense that reaches new levels of suck, or
- hiring Arkansas all-stars Jeff Long and Bret Bielema.

Michigan president apologizes

University of Michigan president Mark Schlissel issued a public apology to football coach Brady Hoke on Wednesday for comments made about the academic shortcomings of Hoke's team and others in the athletic department.

Earlier in the week, Schlissel said the university had a habit of admitting football players who weren't qualified to succeed in the classroom, according to an article in the student newspaper.

Speaking to a group of university employees, he said that graduation rates for the football program had been "terrible" until recent years. Schlissel said he was taking his time while searching for a new athletic director this month because he wanted to make sure to find a candidate who shares his stance on academic integrity. He went on to call the search a "time sink."

Schlissel apologized to Hoke personally Tuesday and said via an interview on the university's website that he planned to speak with the team soon.

"I talked with coach Brady Hoke today to apologize for not providing this full picture in my earlier remarks, and I asked him to convey that to his team. And I plan to do the same, in person, when I return from out-of-town commitments," Schlissel said. "I have a great deal of respect for the efforts of our student-athletes and for the coaches and others in athletics who support them, and that did not come through in my earlier comments. I regret that."

Hoke told reporters Tuesday that during his four years as coach, all 69 seniors have graduated. The team's current Academic Progress Rate is 975, the highest it has been in school history.

"We embrace the expectations that we have here from an academic to an athletic standpoint," Hoke said. "The things that are special about Michigan is that it is an academic institution that has the balance when you look at the competitive side of all sports."

Could this be in an effort to lure J. Harbaugh, with regard to his comments several years back? In all fairness I have to believe that the scUM president does indeed want academic integrity and an AD that shares his vision, but this would give them something they could show to Harbaugh, that they have made strides to correct the issues he pointed out.

Yeah, I ass/u/me you are talking about Jim Harbaugh (i.e not John). I do think they would fire Hoke in a heartbeat if they were assured that they could get him at a reasonable salary. He does have another year on his $25M 5-year contract with the 49ers though. Reports indicate that if he were to part ways with SF there are several other NFL teams that would really like to have him. The questions are:

1) would he rather be a NFL coach or a college coach?
2) would scUM be willing to offer him something like $35M for a 5 year contract (i.e. Nick Saban money) to compete with what he could get in the NFL?

If he wants to return to college coaching and scUM is willing to "pony up" something like $35M, I'd predict that Hoke will be gone.
