If you are waiting until version 5 you may want to keep an eye out on Xenforo. It is a project from Kier and Mike who were developers for version 3 of VBulletin and basically got pushed out the door for wanting to go down the path that version 4 ended up taking. It is quite a departure from VB and for the good in my book but it may not be for every site.
Also on the mobile front you can probably find a mobile skin and a auto detect script for this version. Myself I find the mobile themes much better than the apps plus you can plug your ads in.
